    Hi there,

This sounds like an excellent plugin to connect my blog with the Fediverse. I currently have a profile on zeroes.ca, so this would, I imagine, be a second one, from what I think I understand.

I currently send my blog post subscribers an email when I publish a post, using Subscribe2 plugin. Would this new plugin or functionality affect this at all? Would my subscribers still get their emails?

I also currently have my blog posts publish directly to my zeroes.ca profile, using the plugin Share On Mastodon. Would this be redundant, if I am using this plugin?

I have a setting for comments that restricts comments from showing unless approved or from someone with a previously approved one. How would this work, with comments coming in from the Fediverse?

I am not familiar with code etc., just a photographer who writes and enjoys sharing, just want to make sure I don’t break anything!

    Thanks,

    Ellie

    Hey @elliekennard ??

You are correct, this would create a second account, because this is needed to receive comments from the fediverse.

I currently send my blog post subscribers an email when I publish a post, using Subscribe2 plugin. Would this new plugin or functionality affect this at all? Would my subscribers still get their emails?

The plugin should not change anything that effects other plugins! If it does, we have done something wrong and will fix it immediately ??

I also currently have my blog posts publish directly to my zeroes.ca profile, using the plugin Share On Mastodon. Would this be redundant, if I am using this plugin?

This is also no problem, you can have ActivityPub enabled and still cross post your posts to your “zeroes.ca” account. But be aware, that comments to your “zeroes.ca” account will not be sent to your blog, even with ActivityPub enabled. To receive comments, users have to follow your blogs account and comment there. This is a technical thing and can’t be fixed otherwise ??

I have a setting for comments that restricts comments from showing unless approved or from someone with a previously approved one. How would this work, with comments coming in from the Fediverse?

The plugin respects all comment settings and works well with spam plugins, so no comment should be published if you do not want it to be published!

I am not familiar with code etc., just a photographer who writes and enjoys sharing, just want to make sure I don’t break anything!

That’s totally fine! The plugin is meant to work for everyone and if there are things that are too complicated or if you have ideas how to make the usage easier, please let me know!

Please let us know if you have any more questions or need any other help!

    one more question:

does that mean the login name is then displayed as the username? Is there any way to change that? Security risk and all that.

From a WordPress standpoint, the username is not considered secure or privileged information.

As an author, they’re exposed throughout your site, sometimes visibility, sometimes in the source. Take these forums for example, your username is all over the place.

The same goes for Mastodon and most (if not all) ActivityPub instances, your username is part of the key to finding and following you.

As long as you have a strong password, there is absolutely nothing anyone can do with just your username: https://www.ads-software.com/documentation/article/password-best-practices/

It’s course you’re right! And I do (have secure passwords). But my blog username is not the name on this forum… That’s not to say you couldn’t easily find it.

    cheers!
