I added this plugin on top of WP Rocket that we had installed and another good chunk of our CSS got minified.

What is the difference between this one and WP-Rocket.

    Is Fast Velocity just better?

If yes, what makes it better?

    Thanks!

    Hello,

Kindly read the description and the faqs below for that information.
    https://www.ads-software.com/plugins/fast-velocity-minify/faq/

In short, wp rocket is one of the recommended plugins to use with FVM, provided you disable their File Optimizations (merging, minification of css, html and js files).

FVM doesn’t do page caching, which wp rocket does.
FVM does better merging and minification because it was made for that.
WP Rocket is a cache plugin, before anything else.

So you can use FVM with any other cache plugin (including wp rocket).
All cache plugins do roughly the same thing… cache works the same.
WP Rocket, despite the advertising, is not faster than the free W3TC for example.
What makes wp rocket popular, is their UI and how easy is for less informed users to use it.
A plugin like FVM or W3 Total Cache is more geared to advanced users and developers (though anyone can use both), so it makes sense that it includes extra functionality beyond the basics.

But it all depends on the settings and your site.
For very simple, small sites, there may be no difference.
For large sites however, it pays to have a manual speed audit by a developer that knows how to fully make use of these tools.
