I was wondering if this would work with nginx fastcgi cache. When it doesn’t work then what technically happens? They just get served the webpage that is cached?

Also, do you know if this would work with cloudflare as well?

    Hi,

    No experience with cloudflare myself.

With nginx from the top of my heads it depends on how it is configured. Best scenario is that banned countries get served a page from cache but that banned countries never get cached, so in that case if the cache is expired the banned country will get a ban message but that it will not be cached. And the next allowed visitors will get the regular page again and that page will be cached.
