Will WordPress 4.x support MariaDB 10.3?

  • Hi my server is running MariaDB 10.0.x and I have about 20 WordPress sites already installed on it and working fine. Some of those site are running earlier versions of WordPress. I think the earliest version is 4.1.35. I need to upgrade the server’s MariaDB to 10.3 from 10.0. So my question simply is will WordPress as early as 4.1.35 support MariaDB 10.3 or will it kill those sites? Could I run into major problems? Also if WordPress 4.1.35 doesn’t support the upgrade, what version of WordPress will?

    I’ve tried to find this information but I’m struggling to get a concrete answer.

    The obvious answer is to upgrade the versions of WordPress that are old but backing up and upgrading 20 sites plus making sure that they all work and rewriting any theme scripts all at once would make the job very long indeed.

    Any help in answering that question would be much appreciated.

    If your site worked under 10.0 it will almost certainly work under 10.3.

    But really, you shouldn’t keep putting off these updates. And moving from 4.1 to 6.wheneveryoudit is probably going to go OK, too, if you keep your plugins and themes up to date.

    If you have 20 WP sites running, set up a test server so you can test these things out.

    Thanks Steve that’s great news. Re updating the sites: yes I hear you, unfortunately some clients do not want to pay for updating their website and would much sooner I maintain them all for free which is a continuing problem I deal with.

    Yeah, expecting that you’ll do big time work for free is a problem. Doing work for free is a trap that I fell into, as well. You need to train your clients better. ?? One day their sites will go down and all of this will need to be done on an emergency basis. Good luck.
