[Wish] – Specific search result page for stopwords

  • Most likely I will create a search page template where the tempate will check the query and if it only consists of a stopword then there will be an other message than “no results found” displayed.

    But it would be nice to have an option or a feature in Relevanssi that informs the user that the keyword he/she used is in fact disabled, not a keyword with zero occurence. Normally you filter out the most common words in a language, but for certain web sites there are a handful of keywords which are useless when used as a search query: if an entire site deals with the topic of Firefox, searching for Firefox would be absolutely useless, so instead of showing a lot of results at the first rankings, which are — due to the nature of the factors Relevanssi can use —?in many cases highly irrelevant, it might be a solution to show up a result which tells that, hey, don’t use this keyword alone, as we haven’t taken into consideration this keyword.
    I know this might be a not so frequent scenario, but in general the “not found” message would be more informative if the keywords which haven’t been taken into consideration would be also communicated somehow.

    You can certainly do this on your search results template. Relevanssi doesn’t provide any feedback to users, just the posts, so in my view this feature falls out of the scope of Relevanssi.

    The stopwords are in the database table, so you can check there yourself.
