    Hi Sayontan,

I’d like to be wrong about this, but I don’t think the shortcode can do these things when creating a WP gallery:
    1. Pull images from posts with a particular tag.
    2. Pull images from posts in a particular category.
    3. Pull the Featured Image of the last x most recent posts.

Sometimes I’m working with clients who do not have access to creating shortcodes, and I’d like to be able to set something up for them that would not require photos to be manually added each time they write a post.

It would be great if these abilities could be added in the future!

    Wishful thinking indeed! ??

These aren’t features that are going to be in scope for Photonic at any point in the foreseeable future, since for WP galleries Photonic merely excels in the concept of layouts and lightboxes and doesn’t do much more. This was a conscious decision many years back on my part as I wanted to focus on photo-bloggers more than anything else (hence the comprehensive support for Flickr, Google Photos, SmugMug and Zenfolio).

Your request seems more to be in line with how you would build a slideshow based on some criteria, and as a part of a previous project almost a decade back (a theme called Suffusion) I had offered a “Featured Posts slider” that did exactly what you are asking for. Photonic is not meant to mimic that functionality (it is a slippery slope from a design point of view).

That being said, Photonic does play well with other plugins that do similar things, e.g. Enhanced Media Library, or Media Library Assistant. If one of such plugins seems to be to your liking, you might be able to use it together with Photonic for the layouts.

Thank you for your answer. Yes, the Suffusion-style slider is the ideal I had in mind. ?? Maybe someday that will be a stand-alone shortcode snippet… well, I can always dream.
I think Media Library Assistant will do what we need — thanks for the recommendation.
