  • All it can be is something wrong in your wp-config.php file. It could be as simple as a space somewhere.

What are you using for a hostname? Sometimes you have to put the actual address for it instead of leaving it as localhost.

I’ve seen with a streamline.net host the database name and database user were the same value (I believe it was the account name in fact). Also the DB_HOST was like mysql2.streamline.net

Verify that your password is correct, if necessary change the password on the database to a known value.

Sometimes you can use phpMyAdmin to see the database and the database host will be displayed at the top of the screen.

My hosting company (yahoo) kept replying with “localhost” during the installation, but then, I found one of their help files labeled “Why Can’t I Access My Database?”.

It said to use (‘DB_HOST’, ‘mysql’) and not ‘localhost’ in the wp-config.php file.

    Worked for me…

It’s a good idea to try a few things in the config file if “the usual” is not working.
