    Nate,

Are you familiar with the Page Builder plugin? I am trying to use F&D with Page Builder and there is a fatal conflict between the two.

Page Builder is page design plugin that uses widgets to create a page layout. Perfect for the F&D plugin, but the F&D widgets are not playing nice with Page Builder at all. After placing a F&D widget in a PB column, it won’t connect with the data base.

  • Is this the plugin you’re having trouble with?

Hi, Nate, and thanks for replying.

Yes it is. Sorry, I should have been more specific. I forgot there are several out there. Any ideas? I am at a conundrum. I like your Food and Drink Menu and I like SiteOrigin’s Page Builder. There are other alternatives and I don’t want to use them.

Any assistance you can offer will appreciated. Any chance you can contact PageBuilder’s creator, Greg Priday? He’s good to work with on these issues.

    Hi David,

I’ve just installed the plugin to test it out, but I’m not getting any problem. The Food and Drink Menu widgets work fine with the Page Builder.

I’d recommend disabling other plugins and testing to see if there is a conflict with another plugin. Perhaps switch to a default theme like Twenty Fourteen as well. If disable all other plugins, switch to a default theme and still have the problem, let me know exactly what steps you take when you receive the problem so that I can try to reproduce it.

    Nate,

Thanks for the replay. What are you doing right?

I have had no luck switching every theme and plugin off and on ever which way.

I did what you described earlier, disabling all plugins, only I did it with only the Vantage Theme. I switched themes to Twenty Fourteen and I had the same issue. As soon as I turn on F&D Menu, the site will not connect to the database, either with the Twenty Fourteen or Vantage theme installed.

The only way I can get the everything to work together is to install a previous version of Page Builder, 1.4.10. If I install the latest, version, 1.5, that’s when the issue starts. That works, but I would like to know what the issue is.

Just for grins, I installed set up a fresh database on my PC in XAMPP, installed the Vantage theme and just three plugins, Page Builder 1.5, the latest version of F&D Menu and the latest version of the plugin that converts a theme to a single page theme, Page Scroll ID. Same issue. It’s fine until either Page Builder or F&D is activated. No connection with the database and I can’t tell which plugin is the culprit.

Any ideas will be greatly appreciated.

What’s the exact error you receive? The idea that a plugin conflict could cause a database connection error makes me think there’s something more fundamentally wrong going on here.

Nate, thanks for the prompt reply.

Here is what I get in FireFox. I take this as a database error.

    The connection was reset

The connection to the server was reset while the page was loading.

The site could be temporarily unavailable or too busy. Try again in a few moments.
If you are unable to load any pages, check your computer’s network connection.
If your computer or network is protected by a firewall or proxy, make sure that Firefox is permitted to access the Web.

    Hi David,

This is (likely) not a database error, but likely has to do with the connection to the server. Unfortunately, it seems to be a rather vague error. To be honest, I’m kind of baffled at how plugins could cause an error like this. Could it be an endless loop? Or perhaps file permissions issues? Sorry, I’m not much of a server admin. But the fact that you’re getting the issue but I’m not could point to some kind of difference in server config.

I did a quick Google on it and a lot of people are recommending clearing cache, etc, from the browser. Have you tried another browser to see if it’s just happening in Firefox?

Have you brought this to the attention of the Page Builder dev? If the last version works, he may have some idea what has changed in the new version that might result in this error.

Nate, hello again and thank you for your continued responses. It it is much appreicated.

Yes, I have tried to clear the cache, a move of last resort, and it happens in FireFox and Chrome and I even tried IE. That’s desperate, resorting to IE. Forgive me Steve Ballmer.

I have brought it up with the PageBuilder/SiteOrigin people. I don’t know what is different about PB 14.10 and 1.5. I have been written to them about this and they pointed me to you. Sort of caught developer no-man’s land.

I have posted at SiteOrigin’s support forum, and you can read the thread here: https://is.gd/ayvAAJ

Thanks again for your assistance. Makes my little donation seem all the more paltry.

    Hi Dave,

I may have found the issue. I’ve sent you an email with a couple updated files. I sent to the email address you contacted me with via my site a while ago. Let me know if you don’t get it.

    Yep, that worked. PHP, baby!

Thanks for your help, much appreciated.

Great! The fix will go out with the next version, probably in the next few days.
