Just installed a fresh Woocommerce (8.4.0) on WP (6.4.2)

Keep getting the notification that I need to finish setup.

I’m forced to select en extra payment option while I only need COD and we are forced to select a marketing option which all are not applicable a we use another tool.

Make this optional so we can get rid of that annoying notification

  • Hey there, @carplu! Thanks for contacting us. I’m happy to help you.

Can you please share a screenshot of the message you got and of the marketing option you mentioned so we can better understand what is happening and assist you further? ??

I’d recommend using https://snipboard.io. You can share the direct link to the image as a response to this topic.

    Looking forward to your reply.

    Hi @carolm29

Sure here is the message I see (top right says “finish setup) https://s3.amazonaws.com/i.snag.gy/RylQWX.jpg

When selecting dashboard: https://i.snipboard.io/o30dcy.jpg showing marketing tools need to be added

This shows on Woocommerce > home https://s3.amazonaws.com/i.snag.gy/raIxiX.jpg step 5 needs to be completed

And then you can choose from these options none of which we want/need https://s3.amazonaws.com/i.snag.gy/SYxWCA.jpg

For payments it was the same issue and although we only need offline payment method COD we were forced to select at least bank payments as well as offline method otherwise step 3 also would not be able to complete

This whole setup procedure is the worst ever to be honest. You can hide the config, but that does not solve it (it does not complete setup) – it should be optional in my opinion

So my question: how to finish setup and get rid of that notification without needing to set step 5 (and be able to only choose the option needed in step 3)

    Thank you

    Hey, @carplu!

Thanks for sharing the screenshots and the information.

When you hide the steps the notification should go away.

Completing the steps there is optional, they are there because they represent the most common setup and can help users who are building the store like that.

Here’s a screenshot from my WooCommerce home:

I already hid the setup steps, so as you can see I have no notifications on the home section. Before I hid it, I had notifications there.

From what you told us it seems you already hid it, correct? In case you didn’t, you can do it by going to WooCommerce > Home, clicking on the three dots on it, and selecting “hide this”, as shown on the screenshot.

Once I hid it, it also hid the Dashboard notice about it.

If you are still seeing it after hiding it, can you please try clearing the browser cache to check if the issue is solved?

Regarding the extra payment method, have you already chose it? If you did, you can go to WooCommerce > Settings > Payments and disable it so you only have Cash On Delivery active.

If you haven’t chose the extra one yet, you can ignore step 3.

Please let us know if the issue persists so we can assist you further.

    Have a wonderful day!

Thank you for getting back to me.

I understand this but it is simply not a good practice. If there are required steps that should be clear and optional steps e.g. the marketing should be just that.

Then a user should be able to finish the setup process.

Even when you set it to “hide” in the top right you will keep seeing “finish setup” which simply is not good.

My suggestion would be to pass this to the devs and let them create a solution.

    Thanks
    Carlo
