You said this is happening every time the plugins is updated, correct?
To confirm, are you sure that this is when it happens? Were you able to check that it happened right after updating WooCommerce more than once?

Please share the System Status Report, as @serafinnyc asked and also please check if there are any fatal errors under WooCommerce > Status > Logs. Then you can use the selector to search for Fatal Errors.

Hey, @storyboard2023! Thanks for confirming and for the report.

Can you please run a conflict test to see if something external is interfering with this?

• To do that, please deactivate all the plugins you have, and then remove WooCommerce completely.
• Then please switch to a default theme such as Storefront.
• Keep all plugins deactivated, but install an older version of WooCommerce. You can download previous versions here.
• Also please go to WooCommerce > Settings > Account & Privacy and make sure the settings as as they should.
• Then please update WooCommerce and check if the issue persists

— Be sure you have a good backup in place of your full site and database. You can ask your host for backup functionality or you can consider using a service like Jetpack. If something goes wrong, you will be able to restore it.

— It is important to consider as well a staging functionality in case you would not like to touch your production site (you can ask your host if they offer this service), or you can use WP Staging for quickly spinning up a new test site.

Hi thanks, how is there no diagnostic tool or alternative that prevents having to deactivate all plugins & then remove woocommerce altogether??

I understand your concern about deactivating all plugins and removing WooCommerce, this process is necessary to identify and resolve conflicts between plugins or themes.

However, you could use a staging or development site to troubleshoot issues without affecting your live site. You can find the steps to creating a staging site here.

Also, there are some diagnostic plugins available, like Health Check & Troubleshooting plugin, which can help you troubleshoot without affecting normal site operations.

It is also a good practice to have a complete backup of your site before making any changes.

Hi Support, here is a notice from wordpress of the automatic update to the Woocommerce plugin and attached are the Accounts & Privacy settings. The update deselected the top option for guest checkout.?

*IMPORTANT note: I recently updated WooCommerce Checkout Field Editor (Checkout Manager) to 2.2.1 and this didn’t affect the Accounts & Privacy settings.

Please advise.

Indeed, this is an unusual scenario happening to you. Plugin or theme updates should not affect any WooCommerce settings. It could be possible that there is an external conflict that keeps affecting your settings.

With that said, I would suggest running a conflict test, as my colleague had earlier suggested.

Here’s what you can do to investigate the issue further:

1. Create a staging site.
2. Install the WP Rollback plugin and rollback your WooCommerce plugin to a previous version.
3. Deactivate all other plugins, leaving WooCommerce and your active theme.
4. Update the WooCommerce plugin and check if the settings are unchecked after the update.
5. Rollback the WooCommerce version again and this time active all plugins then update the WooCommerce version

This process might be time-consuming but will help out eliminating any possible theme/plugin conflicts.

Let us know how it goes.

This will take a significant amount of time and sounds like it will not be effective since we’re using the most updated Woocommerce version when the settings reset. It would be better if woocommerce team tested this issue to determine if they can replicate it since the code is in the plugin and only resets the one checkmark on Accounts & Privacy > “Allow customers to place an order without an account”

I tested this issue on a fresh WordPress website with fresh WooCommerce.
I noticed that the “Allow customers to place orders without an account” is already checked in the default settings.

This means guests can place orders without an account by default.
Here is a screenshot for your reference:

If these settings are changing on your site, this means there is a 3rd party code or plugin that is affecting the WooCommerce settings.

To find out what is causing this, I suggest you set up a Staging site.
Then perform a conflict test and let me know about your findings.

This doesn’t have to be an hours long process! Simply disabling all other plugins and testing if the issue persists or not is a great starting point and a very quick action to do. Then it’s a matter of re-enabling the rest of the plugins one by one (or even in batches). You can also do the safe plugins first, the ones you know are from reputable sources and used widely (looking at you SSR I can see Gravity Forms, Wordfence, Smush, etc). That saves some time, too!

Also, you can consider using a plugin like?Health Check & Troubleshooting. This is a plugin developed by the WordPress community, and it is helpful to disable plugins without affecting your current site visitors.
