I Woocommerce products that are in multiple categories. While using the Rankmath SEO plugin, the Product Categories section of the page editor offers the option to select one of those categories to be the primary one.

I had expected that the breadcrumb category that’s displayed on the page would be influenced by my primary category selection but it seems to have no influence. Indeed, it’s not clear how Woocommerce decides which of the multiple categories it’s going to use in the breadcrumbs. Can this choice be influenced? If so, how?

This is one of the product pages in question:

    https://bouncelearningkids.com/product/money-search-uk-worksheets/

The breadcrumbs for this product page shows as follows:

Home / Numeracy worksheets / Money search UK worksheets

Here’s the list of categories selected for this product:

Money worksheets <– this is the category I have marked as primary
    Color worksheets
    Grade 1 worksheets
    Grade 2 worksheets
    Grade 3 worksheets
    Grade 4 worksheets
Numeracy worksheets <– this is what Woocommerce is showing as the breadcrumb
    Printable worksheets
    Puzzles and games worksheets
    UK related worksheets
    Visual perception worksheets

    Any suggestions?

    Wordpress 5.7.1
    Woocommerce 5.2.2
    Rankmath SEO 1.0.62

  • Hello,

Looks like this is related to the Rankmath SEO plugin. You might want to reach out to the developer of the plugin directly, since they’d be more familiar with how it works than we would be.

You could also check out a plugin like (https://www.ads-software.com/plugins/wordpress-seo/) to control over breadcrumbs.

Although I am using Rankmath, the breadcrumbs that are in use are those from WooCommerce. I did in fact already reach out to Rankmath. It was they who pointed out that it’s the Woocommerce breadcrumbs that are not displaying as expected.

    Hi

the breadcrumbs that are in use are those from WooCommerce.

Yes, it is part of core WooCommerce, and a plugin like Rankmath can override the functionality. I found a Rankmath documentation page which may be helpful:

I have the Rankmath breadcrumbs disabled. It’s the WooCommerce breadcrumbs that are in effect.

When I inspect the element, this is what is shows:

    <nav class=”woocommerce-breadcrumb”>Home / Numeracy worksheets / Money search UK worksheets</nav>

    Hi,

    Rankmath breadcrumbs disabled.

You do need to enable Rankmath’s breadcrumb function in order to control over the core WooCommerce breadcrimb feature. By default, WooCommerce generates breadcrumbs dynamically, and there isn’t a built-in way to customize the path to be used for breadcrumb.

In order for you to show Money worksheets in your breadcrumb, you’d need to turn on the breadcrumb function offered by the Rankmath plugin.

    Hi @cdmonline

We’ve not heard back from you in a while, so I’m marking this thread as resolved. If you have further questions, please feel free to open a new topic.

Actually, this isn’t resolved. I’m a little unsure as to why I would need to do anything with Rankmath to affect the WooCommerce breadcrumbs.
