We have been prompted to install ‘WooCommerce.com Update Manager

Now that we’ve installed it we can’t update the plugin without connecting to woocommerce.com. We don’t want to connect all our clients sites to woocommerce.com especially in instances where they don’t own or use any woocommerce.com plugins.

Do we really need the plugin if we don’t have any plugins purchased through Woocommerce.com.

    Hi there @urchindesign,

The ‘WooCommerce.com Update Manager’ is primarily designed to manage updates for plugins purchased through WooCommerce.com. If you don’t have any plugins from WooCommerce.com, you don’t necessarily need to connect to WooCommerce.com. You can manage your updates through the WordPress dashboard as usual. You can learn more about the WooCommerce.com Update Manager here.

However, if you do decide to purchase plugins from WooCommerce.com in the future, you’ll find the Update Manager useful for streamlining the update process.

Hope this helps, please let me know if you have any other questions.

Thanks. The issue here is that you are prompting to install the plugin. Then once installed, even if you don’t need it, you need to connect to woo to get updates for the plugin.

The plugin itself should not require connecting to a woo account for updates.

I’m going to remove the plugin as it seems it isn’t needed but perhaps you should reconsider a few things.

    Hi again @urchindesign,

We understand your concern about needing to connect to a WooCommerce account for updates even if the plugin is not in use.

This is primarily to ensure that you receive timely updates and bug fixes, which are crucial to maintain the integrity and performance of your WooCommerce extensions. However, I understand that you’re not using any WooCommerce extensions, which is understandable, and you can therefore uninstall the update manager.

    I hope this helps.

I have been prompted to install the woocommerce Update manager on a client’s website. However, even though I am listed as a collaborator with this client, I am unable to install it. Looks like a bug?
