    Hello,
I have a problem with woocommerce sending emails notifications (new order, etc…).
    They are not sent.
Neither on the merchant side, nor on the customer side.
I installed WP Mail Logging to see why.
The error message is: Could not instantiate mail function.
What is strange is that emails from WordPress, Contact form 7 or Wordfence notifications are sent automatically and it works.
If I click on the “resent log” button in WP Mail Logging, the email is sent.
I don’t understand why WP_Mail works for and not with Woocommerce notifications.
I prefer not install WP Mail SMTP, I would like to understand why it doesn’t work before ;-).
Can you help me please ?
    All the best.

    Hi @trint,

    Thank you for reaching out.

I understand that you’re facing an issue with WooCommerce not sending email notifications.

The error message Could not instantiate mail function usually indicates a server-related issue. It seems that your server is not able to use the PHP mail() function, which WooCommerce relies on for sending emails.

While emails from WordPress, Contact form 7, or Wordfence might be working, it’s possible that these plugins are using different methods to send emails that are not affected by the same issue.

As you mentioned, you prefer not to install WP Mail SMTP, I would recommend contacting your hosting provider as they may be able to provide more insight into why the PHP mail() function is not working on your server.

    I hope this helps.

    Hello @ckadenge,
Yes I saw reading differents forums that it’s often due to the hosting.
One again, what is strange is that I had other Worpress/Woocommerce by the past on last months/years on the same preproduction server and all works like a charm.
Any other idea on what can cause this ?
    All the best.

    Hi @trint,

Any other idea on what can cause this ?

I’m afraid I’m not aware of any other ideas on what can cause this, as the main culprit is a server misconfiguration.

    I hope this helps.

    Hi again @ckadenge,
I have another WordPress for testing things and extensions on the same server, I will install WooCommerce so as to test if notifications are sent or not.
I’ll keep you in touch very soon.
    All the best.

    Hi again @ckadenge,
    Here is my feedback…
It’s the same thing on my WordPress dedicated to testing.
It must actually come from the host.
Ok let’s go for WP Mail SMTP.
sorry for bothering you, thanks for your help.
    Best.
