WooCommerce downloads with no remaining downloads are still available

If the download limit has been reached, and you use the Customer download link from the order page, you should see the Sorry, you have reached your download limit for this file message.

I made a test using a local test site with only WooCommerce, and the Storefront theme installed and got that message.

If this feature works with other sites you have, there might be a conflict between WooCommerce and your theme or another plugin.

You can perform a conflict test and be sure of this by temporarily switching your theme back to Storefront, disabling all plugins except WooCommerce, and then check again if the issue persists.

If that solves it, reactivate the theme first and check again. Then, reactivate your other plugins, testing after each, until you find the one causing conflict.

If you cannot perform a conflict test on your live site, we recommend creating a staging site using the WP Staging plugin.

thank you for the quick answer. I created a DEV installation under https://dev.pilatisten.de/ deactivated all plugins and activated Storefront as Theme.

But I am still getting no error, that the download limit is reached. The file gets still downloaded.

I am looking forward to further assistance.

Today I tried Force Downloads and the issue still appears.

What can I else try? Is it possible that this is because of a hosting setting? The page is hosted at DF DomainFactory in Germany. Live and DEV page are hosted there. Very similar pages on other servers are working perfectly fine and I am using WooCommerce a lot.

That’s definitely strange. On the dev site, could you try deleting the database tables named _woocommerce_downloadable_product_permissions and _wc_download_log using a plugin like phpMyAdmin and then regenerate the tables via “Verify Database” tool under WooCommerce > Status > Tools?

Then, you could create a new downloadable product to test.

Let us know how that goes. ??

I followed all steps and tried it again. The issue still exists. Do you want to have the credentials to the DEV installation to verify it by your own?

If anybody is wondering what the solution for this problem is: Please add to your .htaccess file following line:

According to the very good WooCommerce Support (thanks again for you good and quick service) following information helped:

I understand customers are able to download the files unlimited times despite the download limit set.

I had a look at your site and set up, after doing some tests it seems like your server is configured to return some headers [HTTP_RANGE] => bytes=0-5242879 irrespective of what the file type is.

Ideally, these headers are used when the browser wants to request a specific part of the file, however, in your case, the server is returning these headers for every web page/file.

Due to the HTTP_RANGE headers set, it is causing the download limit check to be skipped.

I’d suggest contacting your web host to check how the HTTP_RANGE headers can be disabled on your server for web pages.
