    Hi All,

My install has lost the ability to edit woocommerce templates.

Unless i’m going insane, you used to be able to copy the template to your theme and amend the templates, by going to WooCommerce>Settings>Email and clicking manage? That has completely gone now and e-mails have reverted to the original templates?

    Anyone else had this issue.

    Cheers

    Hi @stestory,

I’m not sure if I understand your question correctly. Did you lose the ability to edit the theme templates or does the option to edit the e-mail does not show under WooCommerce>Settings>Email and clicking “Manage”?

Can you post a screenshot of what you’re seeing?

Also, to better understand your setup, could you please share a copy of your site’s System Status? You can find it via WooCommerce > Status. Select “Get system report” and then “Copy for support”.? Once you’ve done that, paste it here in your response.

    Hi,

Yes the option to edit the e-mail via Woocommerce>Settings>Emails>Manage has disappeared. This was noticed recently by a customer who highlighted the emails she was recieving had changed back to the standard woocommerce email.

    Hey @stestory

Thanks for providing the screenshot below from your sites Processing Email settings page.

Looking at one of my test sites which is using the latest version of WooCommerce I see the option to copy the template files to my theme.

After copying the template file to my theme I then see this message instead.

My intial thoughts are it could be one of two reasons you’re not seeing the email copy features on your site.

    1. There is a permissions issue on the server folders of your WooCommerce plugin or your WordPress theme which is preventing the files from being automatically copied. Therfore the copy options are not displaying for you.

    2. A plugin or a theme you’re using on your site is for some peculiar reason not allowing the files to be copied. Therfore hiding those features.

To see if that is the case for 2 we’d suggest carrying out a conflict test on your site by disabling all other plugins aside from WooCommerce along with switching to a theme like Storefront. This will help with trying to and locate what software you have installed which could possibly be causing this behaviour? You could use a free plugin called Health Check and Troubleshooting to carry out such testing.

When in Troubleshooting mode all plugins will be deactivated and only the admin of the site carrying out the troubleshooting would see those changes. Any customers visiting the site would see no changes at all.

Once you have disabled all other plugins and switched theme if the behaviour is resolved you can then enabled your theme and sites plugins testing after each one is enabled until the behaviour returns to locate the culprit.

    https://docs.woocommerce.com/document/how-to-test-for-conflicts/

If neither of those possibilites ar the cae you can manually copy the template file from the WooCommerce pluings /templates/ folder over to your theme by accessing your site via FTP or your web hosting packages file manager as that apporach shuold still work for you.

    I hope this helps.

    Hi,

So i’ve used Health Check and Troubleshooting plugin – and deactivated everything apart from WooCommerce, still not seeing the option.

Can you suggest what permissions i SHOULD be seeing and what could be causing an issue?

Alternatively, can you provide steps to manually replicatte (where in the theme should the plugins/templates/folder files go?)

    Cheers

    Hi @stestory,

For permissions, I’d recommend reaching out to your host’s support. They can check the folder’s permissions and ensure they’re set to the correct values.

If you moved the email template files to the Parent Theme folder make sure these are still within the /yourtheme/woocommerce/ directory. You can read more on overrides here:

    https://woocommerce.com/document/template-structure/#how-to-edit-files

It’s a good idea though to create a Child Theme and copy there the template files you want to override. It could be that the template files saved in the Parent Theme folder for some reason may have been removed when you updated the theme. So this would explain why they’ve reverted to the original templates.

    Thanks.
