I just noticed that all my WordPress management emails (WordFence, some bot protection plugins, analytics plugins, automatic updates, etc) are ALL using the email address I specified in WooCommerce > Settings > Emails > Email sender option “from” address. I’m pretty sure it’s ONLY specified there, nowhere else.

My WordPress Settings > Administration email is different but it is not being used as the From: email as it should for WordFence, analytics, automatic updates, etc. This caused me to filter important order emails because I didnt realize this override occurred.

So, how do I prevent it? This is pretty bad news…

    Hey @tamar,

    Thanks for reaching out!

It looks like WooCommerce is overriding all other email settings, even for plugins not related to WooCommerce, is this correct?

Just to clarify, since some plugins might have their own email settings, have you checked if the other plugins have their own email configuration options? If so, can you check that they are set to use the correct email address for sending their respective notifications.

Also, are you perhaps using an SMTP plugin, as it’s possible that this may be overriding some settings here.

Can you please also share a copy of your sites System Status Report which you can find via WooCommerce?→?Status. Select?Get system report?and then?Download for Support.

This will download a TXT file that has the contents of the SSR which you can then share with us here.

    Cheers!

To answer your questions: no, these emails do not have individual email configuration options. They’re defaulting to the administrative email which is being overridden by the WooCommerce email. I do not have an SMTP plugin.

The sheer fact that this impacts:

    • BadBot
    • WordFence
    • Analytics (Analytify)

Makes me realize that this can’t just be all these plugins having their own separate email configuration. For some reason, they’re defaulting to my WooCommerce email and not my WordPress configuration email.

Hope that makes sense and the data dump in the previous link works this time!

    Hi @tamar,

From what you’ve described, it does seem like WooCommerce’s email settings are overriding the default WordPress admin email for other plugins.

This is unusual as WooCommerce should only affect emails related to WooCommerce orders and notifications.

I suggest a few steps to troubleshoot this:

    1. Try disabling all other plugins except WooCommerce to see if the issue persists. If it resolves, re-enable the plugins one by one to identify if there’s a conflict.
    2. Check if any email-related settings in your theme might be causing this. Sometimes themes can have email settings that override WordPress and WooCommerce settings.
    3. If you’re comfortable with code, you can check your wp-config.php file to see if any code might change the admin email.
    4. Also, you could try temporarily switching to a default WordPress theme like Storefront to see if the issue persists.

If none of these steps help, contacting a developer or a WordPress specialist might be best to look into this further. Based on the feedback we get from our customers, we highly recommend contacting one of the experts on our Customization page.

I hope this provides some clarity. Please let us know if you have any other questions!

It’s so odd, because a .sql dump of the file only shows the email address being right here:

    (297,'woocommerce_email_from_address','[email protected]','no')

So I’m not sure what a WordPress expert might be able to find that I can’t. Given the frequency of emails (2-3 a week), I can’t actually disable plugins or swap themes around to test things out. It’s a store. ??

Not sure if I just need to suck it up or something. Frustrating though.

    Hi there @tamar ??

I can’t actually disable plugins or swap themes around to test things out. It’s a store.

I understand. Thank you for reaching back, with further details on this.

My WordPress Settings > Administration email is different but it is not being used as the From: email as it should for WordFence, analytics, automatic updates, etc. This caused me to filter important order emails because I didnt realize this override occurred.

So, how do I prevent it?

From what I gather, this is related to functionality outside core WooCommerce. Therefore, with a web search, I was able to find this on how to manage WordPress outgoing email.

I trust that points you in the right direction, but if you have more questions, let us know.

    We’re happy to help.

Thanks, much appreciated. With the eleventy billion plugins I have installed, I hate installing other plugins. But I guess it has to be done…

    Hello @tamar,

I understand your hesitation about installing additional plugins, especially when you already have many running on your site. However, in this case, ensuring your administration emails are being used correctly might be necessary.

Alternatively, you can consider contacting a developer or your hosting provider to see if they can assist you in making the necessary adjustments without needing an additional plugin.

If you have any more questions or need further assistance, feel free to ask. We’re here to help!

I am my hosting provider. I used the plugin and all it did was disregard my email and force the email to come from the server domain. So instead of it coming from [email protected], it came from [email protected]. I think this is a WP issue anyway… I guess I’ll disable plugins one at a time and see what happens.

    Hey @tamar,

    Thanks for the update!

I can’t actually disable plugins or swap themes around to test things out. It’s a store. ??

Circling back to this, I totally understand your concern about not wanting to run these tests on a live site, I’d avoid this too. ??

The best way to perform these checks is to test in a staging environment. This is a clone of your live site where you can make changes, including deactivating plugins and switching themes, without affecting your live site. This can be done using the free?WP Staging?plugin.

If you do make any changes or perform updates on your live site, we always recommend ensuring that you have a good?backup?of your?full site and database?before doing this, so that, should something go wrong, you are able to easily restore your site to a functioning state.

    Hope this helps!
