Woocommerce error won’t let customers make purchases

    Hello wonderful Woocommerce folks,

    I have a Woocommerce problem that I tried to fix but have failed so far.

    I had a member tell me about a month ago that they couldn’t pay a fee through our online shopping cart system. I have experienced issues like this in the past and just thought it was a browser issue on their end. Then another member of ours said they couldn’t pay a fee this week. We are a small non-profit, so we don’t have members paying fees every day, or even every week, so I only realized it may be a real issue this week.

    I tested making a purchase, and got an error when I attempted to check out:

    I disabled all plugins one by one, until I found sadly, it was Woocommerce.

    I further tried disabling the other plugins, one by one, including the recaptchas, thinking one of them might have been conflicting with Woocommerce. However, I didn’t find anything conflicting with Woocommerce.

    Do you have any idea what I may try next?

    I would be very grateful for any and all advice. ??

    I am sorry to hear that you are having issues with the payment options on your site and you’ve discovered that this is coming from WooCommerce, correct?

    Based on the error messages you’ve provided, it appears that the issue is related to the deprecated use of the strstr() function in the WooCommerce plugin. This function is being called with a null value, which is not allowed in recent PHP versions. Deprecated functions are often the result of an outdated PHP version.

    I checked your site and would like to try to place an order, however, when I go to your Shop page, I am seeing the screen below, hence, I cannot proceed.

    Checking your site’s SSR, I can see that you are using the payment gateway Bluepay WooCommerce Addon: by Syed Nazrul Hassan – 1.0.0.

    For us to investigate this further, can you please try to switch to the default Storefront theme and only WooCommerce plugin is enabled, create a test order using Cash on Delivery and see if this works?

    If so, then this kind of problem is usually caused by your theme or a third-party plugin present on your site. We can run a conflict test to verify this. I’d recommend cloning your site to a staging environment and performing the tests described on this guide without modifying your live site or impacting customers. Many hosts provide staging facilities, so it’s worth checking in with them. It’s also possible to do it using the free WP Staging plugin.

    If this was caused by a third-party plugin present on your site, it would be best to reach out to the developers for further assistance here.

    Correct, Cash on Delivery (COD) payments are not made online directly via the site.

    Orders using Cash on Delivery?are set to “Processing” until payment is made upon delivery and require manually marking these as “Complete” once payment has been made.

    Thanks so much Roxy. I really appreciate eveyone’s help. Wow, you are all so good!

    I think I have narrowed it down to the Bluepay plugin, and I went to their website and it looks like they’ve been hacked. I have decided to switch to PayPal to process our transactions. I have set up a new PayPal account, and linked our business bank account. I am a bit confused about all the details to put in though. Do you folks know anything about what to put in for PayPal?

    I have acquired my ID from PayPal, and they gave me:

    1. Client ID
    2. Secret

    However, on the Woocommerce page, it asks for:

    1. PayPal identity token
    2. Live API username
    3. Live API password
    4. Live API signature

    I’m not sure what to put in what box. Can you help?

    I understand you would like to switch your site to accept payments via Paypal, there are many extensions that will help you to do so.

    Depending on your selection, the installation steps might vary, you will need a PayPal business account to link your store to PayPal, here there are a few options:

    Do I have to install a separate plugin? The Woocommerce plugin offers PayPal payments under the basic Payment tab in the general app. All I was inquiring about was what to fill in the boxes I listed above. And I already have my PayPal Business account.

    WooCommerce core does not come with PayPal as a built-in payment option and a plugin is required to enable this as a payment gateway on your site.

    We’ll be happy to take a look at your System Status Report to see if we can identify which plugin on your site is enabling the PayPal option as a payment method.

    You can find your System Status Report via WooCommerce?→?Status. Select?Get system report?and then?Copy for support.

    It looks like I am using PayPal Standard, which I see is not recommended anymore. However, I don’t see PayPal Standard listed in my plugins, so I don’t see how to remove it. It looks like PayPal Payments is now recommended, which I’m more than happy to switch to, but I don’t want to have a conflict.

    Also, I have an option in the Woocommerce plugin to enable “Woocommerce Payments”. What is that? Is is a replacement for PayPal and other payments systems?

    PayPal Standard was previously included in WooCommerce core, however, since it has been discontinued, you can simply download the WooCommerce PayPal Payments plugin, and proceed to set this up. There should be no concern for conflicts here ??

    WooCommerce Payments does not include PayPal as a payment option, however, you can use this alongside the WooCommerce PayPal Payments plugin.

    WooCommerce Payments allows customers to make payments using a variety of other payment methods, including credit and debit cards, as well as digital wallets like Apple Pay and Google Pay.

    It also provides merchants with tools to manage refunds, chargebacks, and other payment-related issues.

    Overall, it’s a convenient and reliable way for online businesses to accept payments from their customers.

    I understand that your site is receiving that error message. Can you switch your PHP version to see if that fixes the issue? For example, you can request your host to downgrade the PHP version to PHP 7.4. Before making any change, be sure to back up your site.

    I can change my PHP version myself in my cpanel, but in the MultiPHP Manager, it says:

    “Warning: PHP versions PHP 5.6, PHP 7.2, PHP 7.3, and PHP 7.4 are?deprecated. We recommend that you update to a supported version of PHP. For more information, read our?PHP?documentation.”

    Hi again lovely folks. Thank you for all your help so far. I greatly appreciate it. I rolled my PHP version back to 7.4, and it looks like the error is gone. However, my hosting provider says any version earlier than 8.1 is deprecated. Is this a problem with Woocommerce? Will Woocommerce be able to accept PHP 8.1 eventually?

    For WooCommerce to work properly, we recommend PHP version 7.4 or greater, this is in accordance to: https://woocommerce.com/document/server-requirements/#section-2
