• Somehow I can no longer update the itheme security plugin due to permission issues. I haven’t changed anything in the blog, updated the server and also wordpress itself. It still dooesnt work.

I have filed an issue already on wp core but have no response but in case the plugin is the problem I thought I could give it a shot also here.

    Version 4.9.0
    Error:

Update Failed: The update cannot be installed because we will be unable to copy some files. This is usually due to inconsistent file permissions.

    Error detailed:

I hope there is a solution to this where I don’t have to change lots of permission.

  • Hey Leon,

Are you able to update any other plugins?

Have you tried manually installing using FTP?

    Thanks,

    Hi,

I don’t know whether this reply is helpful to you. But anyone who are facing this issue can solve their problem.

The only way I found is updating the plugins manually. Here are the steps,

    1. Backup your Web Site and database
    2. Download the plugin from the plugin repository
    3. Unzip the downloaded plugin
    4. Delete the existing plugin from the plugins directory (“wp-content/plugins” directory)
    5. Add new plugin to the plugins directory
    6. Check from the Plugins area in the admin panel whether plugin is updated to the latest version and in the activated state
