A few days ago my woocommerce site stopped sending me notifications of orders, and worse, did not send my customers their download link emails for receiving their downloadable online products.
After trying several approaches, I saw under the Advanced Settings a way to “Enable the Legacy REST API” When I clicked to enable, the notification functions were restored. I’m not sure what a REST API does, but it would appear that the new version breaks something.

I started down the route of setting up WP SMTP plugin but it then got very complicated as it seemed to require that I set up a new virtual app in google cloud to enable Gmail — and not being very tech literate it seemed way too much for what should have been a simple fix.
So, whatever the legacy REST API did, I hope that the developers are able to port that function to the new REST API before fully deprecating the old one. Notifications are a vital part of Woocommerce functionality.

    Hi @ijerry,

Legacy Rest Api is deprecated and should be removed from WooCommerce soon – I’m not sure Rest Api is directly related to the issue you’re experiencing. WooCommerce Rest Api basically allows to access data in a totally separate application.

From what you describe it sounds like there is a conflict with a plugin (possibly WP Mail SMTP) and/or your theme and WooCommerce.

For more detailed instructions about conflict testing, check out this – How to test for plugin and theme conflicts.

Please let us know how that goes.

It was resolved by reinstating the REST API. Installing WP Mail SMTP plugin didn’t resolve the issue, so the problem lies elsewhere with what may be an older plugin. If the restore Legacy REST API is removed I suspect the problem will return and may need further investigation at that point.
    Cheers
