WooCommerce order confirmation not sent in formal German

    I am using WooCommerce 3.5.3 together with WordPress 4.9.9 and the language is set to formal German (de_DE_formal) on the whole system.

    I have also created a customized translation file and put it into wp-content/languages/woocommerce/.

    When a new order is created the customers receive the confirmation email in informal German (de_DE, “Du” version) and the shop owner receives the correct formal German message.

    When I delete the informal German files and overwrite the WooCommerce formal German translation with my customized translation it works perfectly fine.

    However, as soon as there is an WP/WC update the WooCommerce formal German translation is installed again and the issue reoccurs.

    Has anyone else encountered similar problems and/or is there a pragmatic solution for this issue?

    Try using the plugin “Loco Translate”. It makes your translations safe for any update WP/WC and saves them in the plugin folder on plugins/loco/…

    If you believe the translation included in core is incorrect or could be improved, please feel free to contribute you own version at the following link: https://translate.www.ads-software.com/projects/wp-plugins/woocommerce

    That’s where translations are maintained by the community.

    As mentioned by @selfoutlet, if you’d like to make these changes on your site now, I’d recommend using a translation plugin like Loco Translate, to create your own custom translation. This will help you make the changes immediately, and make sure that they are kept after any future updates, until the core files are permanently corrected.
