Hello! Over the last few weeks several customers have experienced issues with checking out using their iPhones. I do not have an iPhone, so I cannot test the issue on my end. Apparently everything works correctly until they try to click on the “Proceed to Paypal” button, when the site freezes in an infinite scroll.

From the backend, these orders don’t appear with “payment pending” like they do if a customer gets to Paypal and then closes the browser without completing payment – so whatever the glitch is, it’s happening before there is a connection to Paypal.

It only seems to happen on iPhones, and the two customers who responded to my questions said they were using Safari (so that could be the source of the issue, but I’m not 100% certain.) Unfortunately, since I don’t own an iPhone, I can’t test the issue by disabling plugins, etc. – and I haven’t been able to find any help by searching online. Any tips would be greatly appreciated!

    Hi there,

It definitely sounds like something is conflicting with WooCommerce here. First, you’ll want to change the theme on your site to Storefront, then test. If that resolves the issue, you’ll want to get in touch with your theme’s developer and see if they have an update or fix for you. If changing the theme doesn’t help, you’ll want to deactivate all plugins except for WooCommerce and take a look. If that fixes the problem, re-enable the other plugins one by one to see where the issue is coming from. If you don’t want to test on your live site, then create a staging site using a plugin called WP Staging.

I know you mentioned that this would be difficult to do without an iPhone, so I’d suggest using an tool like BrowserStack to simulate an iPhone checking out on your site.

    Best,

    Ross

We haven’t heard back from you in a while, so I’m going to mark this as resolved – if you have any further questions, you can start a new thread.

Etienne – Sorry, I thought I responded. The issue isn’t resolved. In fact, it’s getting worse, and I spent several hours today fielding calls from customers and sending them Paypal invoices because they couldn’t get the website to work from their devices.

I’m overwhelmed trying to run a farm and small business, and don’t have hours to troubleshoot the website which is why this is taking so long. Please don’t mark this as “resolved” until I get a chance to figure this out, which may take a few weeks.

Just wanted to say that I’m seeing the same issue. It appears to be because the PayPal Checkout button launches a new window/tab.

    Following up on this.

HammyHavoc – after looking into this further with Woocommerce/Automattic, it appears that the issue is related to my theme. My theme authors haven’t been able to fix it though, but I’m happy to update this thread if they do figure it out (and can explain it to me). In the meantime, you should try switching to the WordPress 2020 theme and see if that resolves it for you.

I’ll pass on your suggestion that it’s related to the checkout button launching a new window/tab to my theme authors. Thank you for that!

    hi guys,
I am having a similar problem. on chrome and mac I get forwarded to the page where I can directly pay by card, as I wish.

When I try my site with the iphone, the same checkout leads to a paypal login site and does not give the option to pay by credit card :/
