    Hi,
I have been using the standard Paypal plugin for the past few years without any problems, but after reading the notice that support for the old plugin will be discontinued and the plugin will be replaced by this one, I installed it and gave it a test run.
As far as I can tell it is not compliant with German / EU laws at the moment.
I am using “Germanized for WooCommerce” which tweaks a lot of WooCommerce standard settings and makes sure that German shop owners don’t get into legal trouble. That includes overwriting the “Payment Button” at the end of the checkout page. There are only a few phrases that we are allowed to use and the payment button may not include anything but this text (i.e. logos).
Unfortunately the Germanized plugin is no longer able to overwrite the buttons provided in this plugin, therefore German shop owners won’t be able to use it.
Can you please either provide the user with the option to use the standard WooCommerce payment button or change the text and remove the logo on the button, or change the code so that Germanized will be able to fix it again?
    Thank you.
    Jenny

    Hi @miss-newyork,

As far as I can tell it is not compliant with German / EU laws at the moment.

We can understand eventual concerns but we don’t share this sentiment. Neither does PayPal nor PayPal Germany. But when in doubt, I suggest reaching out to a legal expert to get proper advice.

A feature to replace the smart button integration with a standard redirect to PayPal should be implemented in the coming months along with other improvements such as Pay upon invoice for the German market, in particular.
PayPal Payments already works together with Germanized today. For example, it can move the buttons on the checkout page and change the button label to “buy now” which is recommended for the German market.

But if all you’re looking for is a redirect to PayPal, then you could also continue to use the PayPal Standard or Checkout implementation until a redirect was implemented in PayPal Payments.

    Kind regards,
    Niklas
