So, for now, I will install some free themes here to see if the problem is only with your theme or if it’s a bug.

I just packed the theme files on the ftp, does directly uploading them work? This is a Ipartially) custom made theme (I think so at least) for which I don’t have the original install package.

I have installed three different free themes right now:
– SKT Wedding Lite;
– Shophistic Lite;
– SKT Girlie Lite.

And I had already tested with another theme:
– Directory Plus.

And for all tested themes the plugin is working perfectly. So, the problem is in your theme.

I recommend you to download one of those free themes and compare the codes. Then you will find what is wrong (nonstandard) with your theme.

It seems the code used to show the pictures on the shop page is different than the code used on the product page.
I tried one of the competitors plugins as well (Nelio external featured image) and this plugin only displays pictures on the product page and not on the shop page.

A bit of combining might work, thanks for the pointers!
