• I am just starting to use WooCommerce. I am using it without any add-ins, and have not yet set up a payment gateway. When I try ordering a product and then check in the cart, I get the message “There are no shipping methods available…” What does this indicate?

    I haven’t gotten any replies yet. When I search the forum for “There are no shipping methods available…” the questions all seem to relate to add-ins, but I’m using WooCommerce straight from the box.

    Can anyone help why I am getting this error message? I don’t’ know how I can proceed without help on this issue.

    I can’t tell how far you’ve got.

    Did you go to:
    Dashboard > WooCommerce > Settings > Shipping tab
    and set up a shipping zone. Try the Rest of the World zone to start with to get the hang of it. Then “Add shipping method” to the zone. Say the flat rate one.

    Same tab but Shipping Options sub-page, did you check “Enable the shipping calculator on the basket page” and uncheck “Hide shipping costs until an address is entered”.

    Thanks for responding! Your reply went to my Spam folder, and I just happened to see it today, so my apologies for not replying earlier.

    When I go to Dashboard > WooCommerce > Shipping tab there is no option there for setting up a shipping zone.

    “Enable the shipping calculator on the cart page” is checked. (Note the word “cart” instead of “basket.”) The “Hide shipping costs until an address is entered” is unchecked.

    It looks like you have WooCommerce version 2.5. Shipping zones came in version 2.6 and the differences were substantial. Its unlikely you’ll get any support anywhere for the pre-v2.6 way of doing things. Consider updating WooCommerce. The current version is 2.6.14. As ever, backup before updating.

    When you get to the Shipping tab, this is what you should see:

    You were correct, I needed to upgrade WooCommerce to 2.6.14, which I did. I tried following the steps in your first post, hopefully correctly. However, I am still getting error messages on the checkout page. First, under “shipping” I get the message “There are no shipping methods available. Please double check your address, or contact us if you need any help.” Further, on the same checkout page I get the message “Sorry, it seems that there are no available payment methods for your state. Please contact us if you require assistance or wish to make alternate arrangements.”

    I’d need to see screenshots of your shipping zone setup and method setup to be able to help, though no guarantee!

    One issue with shipping is that WooCommerce has to know your address before it can determine whether a shipping method is available for you. To enable this, you can go to WooCommerce > Settings > General Options and set a default customer location. “Geolocate” is good, though not perfect. Or enable “show shipping calculator on cart page”.

    Payment methods are a different sub-system. Go to the Settings > Checkout tab, down the bottom and make sure you have setup and enabled at least one payment gateway.

    I think I’m beginning to see the light now. After reviewing https://docs.woocommerce.com/document/setting-up-shipping-zones/ I realized my Everywhere zone didn’t have any shipping methods. I added some and the error message goes away. The payment method error message, as you state, must be due to my not having a payment gateway set up.
