Been using this plugin with no problems for 4 years. Today, it all of a sudden is throwing an error and requiring us to put in the customers phone number. I haven’t updated any plugins or made any other changes… Anyone else run into this today, or know what could be causing this?

Error: The WooCommerce Shipping & Tax server returned: Bad Request Phone number must be provided in the “Destination address” tab. ( 400 )

  • Right. I understand this as a temporary fix. That’s asking a lot of your customers to manually enter a phone number to print shipping labels for hundreds of orders a day. Is there a fix you’re working on that will allow customers to put in the phone number in bulk? If not, we will be moving to Shopify. This manual labor would reduce my ability to get orders out by 75%.

That is not the problem I am having though. It is requiring the ‘destination’ phone number (if it wasn’t optionally added by the customer already). I have a phone number entered into the origin address tab.

I mentioned in the original post that the issue seems to be related to the Google Analytics plugin (at least for me). When I disable the Google Analytics plugin the issue goes away. When I enable it, it comes back. Something changed and caused a conflict between these two plugins. Maybe someone else that is having this issue can confirm if that fixes your issue (disable google analytics and try again). I also shut off some settings in Google Analytics and that fixed the issue as well (I believe I shut off ‘anonymize customer IP address’, and all of the ‘advanced e-commerce settings’).

Either way, it needs to be fixed, as it’s clearly a bug.

Isn’t there a way we can implement a phone number field in STORE GENERAL SETTINGS so that I do not have to manually enter a phone number in each separate shipping label? I generate 100 orders a day, and having to handle each label manually is going to seriously cut my productivity in half. (See screenshot in link)

    Is this a planned fix?

    Hi @hallorjo

It is requiring the ‘destination’ phone number (if it wasn’t optionally added by the customer already).

To better picture what you are referring to here, can you please share with us a clear screenshot of what you see on your end so that we could address you more effectively?

If you don’t already have a screenshot service installed, you can try https://snipboard.io. You can share the direct link to the image as a response to this topic.

I mentioned in the original post that the issue seems to be related to the Google Analytics plugin (at least for me). When I disable the Google Analytics plugin the issue goes away. When I enable it, it comes back

Meanwhile, I understand that as per your testing the conflict arises when Google Analytics is enabled, and disabling it resolves the issue here, correct?

Going back to your site’s System Status Report, can you please update WooCommerce to version 7.5.1 and Google Analytics to 1.7 and see if it resolves your issue here?

    WC Version: 7.4.1
WooCommerce Google Analytics Integration: by WooCommerce – 1.6.2

Otherwise, please provide the fatal error logs (if any) under WooCommerce > Status > Logs.

    Hi @tonycreative

Upon checking WooCommerce Shipping’s Feature Requests, I found that you’ve already submitted this concern here: https://woocommerce.com/feature-request/there-should-be-a-phone-field-in-the-general-settings-store-address-in-the-woocommerce-dashboard/, correct?

Currently, there is no option yet to add the store’s Phone Number under WooCommerce > Settings > General so that this would be used when printing shipping labels. Hence, we appreciate your interest and feedback. Rest assured that we take our users’ feedback seriously and we always strive to improve our products.

Meanwhile, have you tried adding the phone number for the first time when creating a shipping label? If so, this should be saved for the following shipping labels and you should not be asked again, this is as per the developers. Otherwise, please submit a bug report here instead.

    Thanks!
