Our site uses Woocommerce Subscriptions, Stripe and your plug in to process subscription payments. Original transactions are processing fine, but monthly renewals are not being processed at all. Stripe shows no Customers or Plans being set up. I haven’t found any documentation on set up for your plug in and am stumped on how to get this issue resolved. Would appreciate guidance as to how to get our settings correct for these three systems to work properly. Our PayPal gateway is working fine for monthly renewals. Stripe says we need to talk with Woothemes, and Woothemes won’t provide support given the third-party plug in aspect. Looking forward to insights and guidance here. Thanks!

When might I expect a reply? Been a week since posting and this is an issue needing timely attention. Being patient and also seeking responsive support. Thanks.

    Hi mlefferts,

Did you ever get resolution regarding monthly subscription payments showing up in Stripe? I have several subscriptions that are supposed to bill today, but the cards have not been processed yet within Stripe. I’m hoping this is a non-issue and the payment WILL process around 12noon since that is the time of day the subscriptions were originally setup. And maybe this was the answer to your (non)issue also?

    Any insight is helpful!

    Hi Randy,

As you can see, Steven has not replied since I first wrote 3 weeks ago and followed up 2 weeks ago. Very disappointed in the lack of support on this, and since we’re using his free plug in, Woothemes won’t provide support. I’d recommend switching to the official Woothemes Stripe plug in for $79, which is what we’re going to do at some point.

That said, we did figure out what the problem was and it now works for all NEW subscriptions, but didn’t fix the problem for all subscribers prior to the date of our fix. We need to ask our subscribers to re-subscribe in order for a Customer profile to be created in Stripe, which is what’s needed for renewals to process.

Here’s what you need to be sure is set up Stripe for Woocommerce:
In your site’s WP-Admin, go to Woocommerce>>Settings>>Checkout>>Stripe for Woocommerce.

On that page you’ll see an option for Saved Cards with a check box to “Allow customers to use saved cards for future purchases.” THIS NEED TO BE CHECKED in order for Stripe to create a Customer profile and store user’s cc data. If it’s not checked then Stripe captures Payment info only without storing cc data, therefore when the next month’s billing comes around it won’t process since there’s no Customer profile for the user.

The wording of the Save Cards description is misleading, I feel, making it sound like it’s an option for customers to select. Must be why our tech guy who set us up didn’t enable it at the time.

If you have it selected, your renewals should work. If not, they won’t work. Check in your Stripe account to see if there are any Customer profiles. If so, you should be set. If not, check this Saved Cards setting. You’ll need to have everyone re-subscribe in order to create new Customer profiles if it wasn’t set up properly from the start, unfortunately.

    Hope this helps!

Thanks very much for the detailed explanation, mlefferts! I purchased the $79 Woo/Stripe plugin and it seems to be working excellent.

    All the best,
    Randy

Good for you! What was involved in setting it up for ongoing subscriptions? Did it work to create the Stripe Customer profiles on cue for your renewals?

Keep in mind that we switched from Simplify Commerce to Stripe. (Simplify was an absolute nightmare – steer clear of that platform.)

The Woo/Stripe plugin setup was very easy. Install the plugin, add the keys…etc. but I do NOT believe the subscriptions are managed from within the Stripe portal; rather, they are managed via the Woo Subscription plugin which passes the weekly/monthly transaction to Stripe when it is due. The subscription portion of Stripe is NOT populated in Stripe….and I don’t think they need to be. Plus, Woo supports multiple subs per subscriber so that’s nice.

With regard to customer setup in Stripe, Woo passes minimal info to Stripe (customer name, email and credit card info). But of course it tracks the payments along with all other dashboard features I’m sure you are aware of.

So far, i’m happy with the $79 for the plugin offered via Woo site as an “add on”.

    Hope that helps!

    Yup, thanks Randy.

Hi there and thanks so much for this
i am having the same issues
I am going to test your method
can you tell me will this still work even if the customer doesnt click the save card box?

    thanks for your input

I developed a client site using WooCommerce Subscriptions with this Stripe plugin and am experiencing the same problems with renewals. They are not being processed. While initial subscription purchases process correctly, they are all placed “On Hold” when it is time for the first renewal. Renewal payments simply do not occur. Moreover, our setup included the Saved Cards setting being CHECKED, which did not prevent the reported issue with renewals.

Seeing the absence of any developer response/support to this query, I am reluctant to continue attempts to find a fix and will likely return to the official WooCommerce Extension instead (which the client was hoping to avoid for cost purposes).

As far as I know the Save Card must be checked for it to work. At least that’s what made it work for our site. Apparently that’s not the case for ytilles site, so I don’t know if there’s possibly something else that needs to be set up.

Given the total lack of response to this thread from this plugin’s developer, I recommend abandoning it and paying for the Woocommerce one. Woothemes will only provide tech support to their own plug ins, so as long as you’re using this free one you won’t be able to ask them for help.
