Hi, I’m using WordPress Version 6.6.2. On the WooCommerce/Settings/General page, when I uncheck the “Enable tax rates and calculations” and click the “Save changes” button, I expected all taxes to be disabled. However, when I refresh the page, the “Enable tax rates and calculations” is checked again and the taxes are still being calculated on the checkout page?

    Please help.

    Hi @jaytee6x2,

    Thank you for reaching out.

I understand you’re having trouble with saving your tax settings.

In most cases, this issue can sometimes occur due to caching issues. Could you please try clearing your browser cache, then uncheck the “Enable tax rates and calculations” box and save changes again to see if this makes any difference?

Hi there, I have cleared everything in the browser cache, I have purged sg cache in the WordPress dashboard and the problem still persists. After refreshing the WooCommerce settings page, the “Enable tax rates and calculations” checkbox is still checked and the tax is still being calculated at checkout. Any Ideas?

I have tried this on a different browser and the problem still persists. Any ideas?

I have tried deactivating all plugins except WooCommerce and WooCommerce Shipping & Tax. The problem still persists.

Okay, this is getting annoying. Can anyone help with this?

Now, after re-activating the plugins, my variation buttons have disappeared and I have to use a dropdown menu instead (which is totally unusable due to the CSS Styling being completely wrong). This is a mess. Any ideas???

I had to reinstall a backup of the website. The variation buttons are now visible and working, but the “Enable tax rates and calculations” will-not-stay-unchecked! @woo – Please fix this – ASAP!

    Hi @jaytee6x2

    Thanks for sharing requested information.

This is the default behaviour. By default, WooCommerce doesn’t show any swatches. However, I can see that you’ve used XT Variation Swatches for WooCommerce by XplodedThemes, so the issue seems to be coming from this plugin.

This is a third-party plugin, and we don’t provide help & support for 3rd-party plugins or themes as they’re outside our support scope. It would be best to reach out to the plugin developer for further assistance.

I had to reinstall a backup of the website. The variation buttons are now visible and working, but the “Enable tax rates and calculations” will-not-stay-unchecked!

This problem is usually caused by a conflict with your theme or with another plugin, such as SiteGround’s Speed Optimizer and Security Optimizer. The best way to determine this is to:

    • Temporarily switch your theme to Storefront or Twenty Twenty-Four
    • Disable all plugins except for WooCommerce
    • Repeat the action that is causing the problem

If you’re not seeing the same problem after completing the conflict test, then you know the problem was with the plugins and/or theme you deactivated. To figure out which plugin is causing the problem, reactivate your other plugins one by one, testing after each, until you find the one causing conflict. You can find a more detailed explanation on how to do a conflict test here.

If the problem continues, it might be related to a server-side caching issue or a problem with your WordPress installation. In this case, I recommend contacting your hosting provider to see if they can help.

I hope that helps! Let me know once you have done a conflict test!

Hi Shameem, after following your advice I have discovered that I have a Printful plugin that must also have the “Calculate sales tax” checkbox unchecked. It’s my fault really, I assumed that disabling the “Enable taxes” checkbox in WooCommerce settings would override all other plugin tax settings but, it doesn’t.

That was the problem all along. However, it would have been nice to see a message to inform me that the WooCommerce tax settings are being overridden by tax settings in another plugin though, it would have saved a lot of time. Maybe something like a “Did you know that you also have taxes enabled in another plugin?” message etc, etc.

Apologies. The issue is now resolved, thanks very much for your help.
