    Hello!

    I am working on improving the site speed on our site. I have recently reuploaded almost all images on our site with a smaller size (800×800 for product images for example), compressed them in Photoshop (60/70%) and with consistent naming of file names (for example “bluegaz-z1-gasolgrill”). I have also cleared out my media library so there is only one version per image. None of my images that I have uploaded are named with the pixel size in its name.

    To look at my website speed I am using the tool GTmetrix. When I do a test on our website now after all of these changes and look at “optimize images” most of the images that are left to improve are product image thumbnails in the sliders I have. When I inspect the code it says that these are Woocommerce thumbnails.

    I thought that Woocommerce “gets these images” from the product page, and since all of my product pages now have optimized images these thumbnail images should also be optimized.. right? Am I missing something?

    I really really want to fix these thumbnail images so I can get an “A” on my GT metrix test. How can I do this? Wheare can I upload new thumbnail image, I cannot find them in the wordpress media library. Please please help.

    Best regards, Isabella

    Hey Isabella,

    WooCommerce will use native WordPress thumbnail creation functionality to generate thumbnails.

    You could look at using a service/plugin if you wish to further optimize thumbnails.

    One example:

    I see!

    Thank you so much, I will get a plugin! Just to make sure, there is no manual way to edit these thumbnail images then? Cause I cannot find them in the media library. I don’t know where they are.

    Best regards,

    You can access them via the /uploads/ folder of your site(by default the Media library will show the “main” image and not the thumbnails).

    Thank you! I looked at the screenshot but I am not sure how to find what I see. If I go in to the media library, where do I click? Can you tell me step by step?

    @isabella92,

    The Media Library may not show the thumbnails(I don’t see them on my local installation). My screenshot is showing the /uploads/ directory of my own local site. You would access this either through FTP or through a File Manager plugin using cPanel/Plesk.

    A plugin like Smush should be able to find them and optimize them further. It’s outside the scope of WooCommerce but I hope that helps.
