Hi there, I am using WooCommerce and my products are stored on Amazon S3. If I activate “encryption from the server” on the Amazon server for each downloadable file, will this not be sufficient to have WooCommerce links generated that cannot be shared? Or is the Amazon S3 Storage extension definitely required? Thanks!

  • Hi! Happy to help.

The extension Amazon S3 Storage generates shortcode that helps WooCommerce ‘talk’ to the Amazon bucket so that you can add products via the Amazon S3 service.

If you use Amazon’s encrypted URL, the customer can still always just copy and paste that URL and access the file, if it’s set to Redirect Only in WooCommerce (explanation is here).

To prevent users accessing the URL, your best bet would be to use one of the secure methods described in that documentation I shared above (either Force Downloads or X-Accel-Redirect/X-Sendfile).

    I hope that’s helpful!

Thank you @fylgjur Victoria and @abwaita abwaita,

Unfortunately my host does not support X-Accel-Redirect/X-Sendfile but I appreciate your responses!
