Word BLOG in address url important?

    Hi,

    I have installed a new wordpress and setup the new posts to be displayed under Blog page in settings. When I click on the word blog all the posts are displayed. However, when I click on an individual blog post the word blog disappears in the address url. How critical is it to have the actual word sitename.com/blog/ before the actual post because right now I have my site setup as sitename.com/category/post-name
