Word fence with an Add on domain

    Hi,

    I currently have Word fence installed on a main domain wordpress install and i would now like to add word fence to another wordpress install that is on an Add on domain. (the add on is in a folder /public_html/addondomain.com, with the main domain install just being in /public_html, which is where the word fence files seem to sit for the main domain)

    Is there a best practice procedure to follow to install word fence correctly on the add on domain please?

    for eg i believe i have read that it is best to have word fence on a sub domain first before then installing it on the main domain BUT does this also count for add on domains please?

    and if so, is it best to actually uninstall it fully on the main domain, including deleting any word fence folders etc? or can i just deactivate it on the main domain whilst i install it on the add on?

  • Hi,
    If you want to follow this approach then your best choice will be “Removing Extended Protection” from the parent site, then installing Wordfence and configuring the firewall on the add-on site, and finally re-configuring the firewall on the main site again. With that said, if you have installed a recent version of Wordfence on both sites (the main site and the add-on domain), then you don’t need to worry about this issue at all.
