Word Press "New User Registration" Notification

    For many weeks I have been getting email notification of New User Registration.” The email says it is from [email protected]. It always shows a person’s name, then under that, the clickable email address of that person. For one thing, the two NEVER show the same name. It seems the two are unrelated in any way. I have clicked on an email address link shown, and it just takes me to my own email to send an e to that address. My true site IS https://www.AQuirkyCreative.com. Am I being hacked in some way? These just do not look like legit new users? It also does not say “subscriber.” Just, “New User.” I am not very active on my blog, admittedly, and hope to get better this year. These notifications just don’t feel right. I do get subscriber info from Mail Chimp, which seems to be my true subscribers. Can anyone advise me? Thank you SO much. (This is my first post in the forum, so be gentle.)

    wordpress@[your-domain] is where all of your WordPress notification emails come from, that’s normal.

    Two questions though:

    1. Do you *need* users to register for your site, as in do you have any functionality which requires that?

    2. At Settings -> General in your blog’s Dashboard, is “Anyone can register” checked or unchecked?

    1. I do need or want new subscribers, because I do have a blog, and subscriber numbers do help if I want to submit to be paid for instructional or review posts. I don’t believe I have any “functionality” which requires that, though. I do have Mail Chimp set up to handle new subscribers, and to post any new posts I create.

    2. I just went into Settings-General. I did have “Anyone can register” checked. I just UNchecked it. Is that what you think I should do? Will unchecking that box mess up my Mail Chimp set up?

    Mail Chimp has its own subscription system, so if you only want to use Mail Chimp, you can safely uncheck “Anyone can register” and delete any Subscriber that has registered so far from the Users section of your blog’s Dashboard.
