“Update Wordfence automatically when a new version is released?” is not checked, yet…

“[Wordfence Alert] mysites.url Wordfence Upgraded to version 7.1.0”

how can i make sure this does’t happen in my production site?

  • Hi @er2576,

Could you please check the “Wordfence –> Tools –> Diagnostics” page to see if there are any errors? –in particular regarding the Wordfence Config and MySQL sections.

    Hi wfyann,

All sections are green and OK.

    Hi @er2576,

    Sorry about the delayed update.

The “auto update” function runs via a WordPress cron job; could you please check and make sure WordPress crons are being cleared properly on the site?

The “Cron Jobs” section on the “Wordfence –> Diagnostics –> Tools” page will show you currently scheduled cron jobs.

Another option is to manually check the value of “autoUpdate” row in the “wfConfig” table to make sure it’s disabled.

Let me know if that helps.

    hi @wfyann,

thanks for your reply. going back in the cron settings all looked good, however, i noticed that the “auto update” box was checked (when before it was most definitely not, when i created this issue). i’ve unchecked it again, saved, and confirmed autoUpdate is set to 0 in the wfConfig table. hopefully that’s the end of it.

    appreciated.

    Hi @er2576,

    Thanks for the reply.

Maybe this situation was due to some sort of display glitch where the checkbox didn’t appear ticked even though the feature was enabled —but that’s just a wild guess.

I’ll mark this topic as resolved for now. However, if the issue starts occurring again please let us know.

    Thank you.

following up with this because it is happening again (or perhaps still happening).

my prod site is auto updating wordpress core, my dev site is not.

my desire is to have wordpress auto updates off for both.

both have “Update Wordfence automatically when a new version is released?” unchecked on the main options page.

in wfConfig table autoUpdate is 0 for both.

the only difference i see is in Wordfence –> Diagnostics –> Tools -> Cron Jobs: wordfence_daily_autoUpdate appears on the dev site but not the prod site. i’m not how these diverged but perhaps it’s causing the issue?

    tia!
