I have tried many times to install Wordfence Free 7.9.3 and the error installing license key comes up repeatedly.

My website is https, I have tried with Wordfence being the only active plugin, the license is less than 24 hours old, and I have tried many variations of installing to no avail.

    Any solutions?

  • I just try to activate Wordfence Free and it’s the same

    Thanks for reaching out.

Can you confirm you are following the steps in the video here?

If it still fails can you tell us what part of the process it fails in and what error messages you see?

    Mia,

I have followed the directions, both versions, in the video multiple times and every time I get the same result. After inputting my email and license key (many tries with new license keys), the pop-up window stating the error code: the install did not work, contact support.

I’ve reached out to the QA team to see if they can see on our side if there is an issue on our side. Is the site in the profile the one you tried to install it on?

    Hi, Mia!

    My message is
    Error Installing License
An error occurred while installing your license key.
Please try again. If the problem persists, please?contact Wordfence Support

I get that but what is the URL? ??

    Mia

Is it possible to send it like private message?

You can send it and a diagnostic report to wftest [at] wordfence [dot] com. Make sure and include your forum username (@sherr1trj) where indicated. Respond here when it is sent.

@dideto. Please open your own forum post and do what I said to above so we can track your issue separately. Thanks!

@sherr1trj We were able to see 6 attempts you tried to install the key using the link in the email. This is most likely a conflict with another plugin. I’d check the browser console, or temporarily disable other plugins and try again. Copying and pasting the key from the email can be done even after 24 hours even though the link in the email expires so please try that as well.

@wfsupport Mia, I have disabled all of the plugins, copy & pasted the license key and the same error prevails. I still cannot install the latest version of Wordfence free.

Did the browser console show any errors?

Yes, the same error that keeps on showing up every time after I try installing the licence key:

    Error Installing Licence

An error occurred while installing your license key.

Please try again. If the problem persists, please contact Wordfence Support(opens in new tab)

My latest try was about 5 minutes ago with a new license key.

Please provide effective help as to how this issue can be solved for once and for all.

That’s not the browser console. That’s what the window said.

Please follow the steps in this link to show the browser console errors and link to a screenshot so we can help.

My apologies, I did not know a browser console existed or how to access it.

Here is the error message I get:

JQMIGRATE: Migrate is installed, version 3.4.0
/wp-admin/admin-ajax.php:1 Failed to load resource: the server responded with a status of 500 (Internal Server Error)
    wfonboarding.1685552791.js?ver=7.9.3:5 Registration error message: null

I do have a screenshot of the console message if that is needed.

So it looks like the ajax handler for WordPress is failing. Are you using a plugin that changes the /wp-admin URL?
