Wordfence administrative URL is incorrect in the staging area

    Hello,

    We run two versions of our site: The live site and the staging site. We run Wordfence on both versions.

    I have recently mirrored the live site to our staging area and ever since then, the Wordfence administrative URL for the staging site is incorrectly being shown as the URL of the live site: https://www.oursite.de//wp-admin/admin.php?page=Wordfence instead of https://test.oursite.de//wp-admin/admin.php?page=Wordfence.

    I see no option in the Wordfence setting to manually set the URL to point to the right site. Re-installing Wordfence on the test site did not solve this issue.

    How can we fix this?

  • That is because this is not a Wordfence issue. You likely have to change it in the WordPress General Settings.

    thank you for your answer.

    However, upon checking my WordPress general settings, I saw that the site URL is configured correctly there.

    I also took a look at the corresponding wp-config.php file; the site url is defined there correctly as well.

    I’m not sure what to tell you. We don’t have an option to change the URL for the admin area. Have you tried deactivating Wordfence to see if that fixes it?

    I have deactivated it with the option to delete all of its database tables and did a clean reinstall of Wordfence. The issue persists… I have no idea where it gets that URL from.

    Then again, it’s nothing plugin- or site-breaking. It’s a mere inconvenience.

    These are the places the URL could be coming from

    – Database wp_options table (site url/home url)
    – wp-config.php constants
    – Wordfence also stores it’s own copy. Perhaps that’s not being updated? If so you’d find it in a table called wfConfig in the row wp_home_url

    If it’s neither of those, it would have to be another plugin. Hope that helps!
