What is going on with Wordfence? I have free version and I’m getting all these annoying alerts. I trimmed down but still…

Any reason I have to get any? Doesn’t just do job behind scenes? What is minimum alert I need? I would prefer none. thanks.

  • Alerts can certainly be annoying, and they are customizeable.

Are you the administrator of the site or is someone else? Whoever that is should to receive at least minimal alerts in order to know if the site is hacked or otherwise being misused. That’s the point of having WordFence; it blocks the bad guys, or if it can’t block them, it tells you about it so you can keep your site up and working right.

Minimal alerts: to choose your alerts, Go to WordFence in your main menu, then All Options, Email Alert Preferences. Simply uncheck the ones you don’t absolutely need.

I recommend keeping at least 4 boxes checked. WF deactivation, Critical problems, Administrator access sign in, and Large increase in attacks.

    Good luck!

    Great post P
Will do, most are “this plug in needs an upgrade_”

    This will help thanks.

    Hi @kevs23,

You can indeed choose which type of security issue you want to receive alerts for, as @greigner rightly pointed out.

The “plugin needs update” alert falls into the warning type; so in your case, you might want to disable the “Alert on warnings” option.

Also, you could set a value for the “Maximum email alerts to send per hour” option.

thanks I think P3 eliminated that terrible one about plug in by reducing to 4 essentials.

    Hi,

Thanks @greigner for helping out in this thread, @kevs23 I’m sure now you know how to turn off plugins updates email alerts, just want to chime in and emphasize about the importance of having your plugins/themes installed along with WordPress itself up to date, as plugins vulnerabilities are the most common reason for WordPress websites getting hacked.

    Thanks.
