Wordfence and phpmailer

    Hello

    I have on my website wordfence and wp mail smtp. Since few days, It s impossible to send emails through PHPMailer.

    I try to change smtp plugin and each time I have issue with PHPMailer
    I have this log

    2022-05-16 14:58:56 Connection failed. Error #2: stream_select(): You MUST recompile PHP with a larger value of FD_SETSIZE.It is set to 1024, but you have descriptors numbered at least as high as 1112. –enable-fd-setsize=2048 is recommended, but you may want to set itto equal the maximum number of open files supported by your system,in order to avoid seeing this error again at a later date

    As soon as I desactivate wordfence, I have no more issue to send email.

    Could you help me to understand this issue with wordfence?

    Hi @kundaweb12, thanks for getting in touch.

    We have no other cases reported historically or recently regarding this issue despite a large number of customers with Wordfence and PHPMailer installed so it certainly seems strange that disabling Wordfence is a solution to the error message. However, as the message mentions open files, I suspect it might be triggered during a scan when Wordfence is looking at many files on your site.

    I would firstly suggest mentioning this error message to your hosting provider in case they can provide insight from log files as to why the amount of open files during Wordfence operations is exceeding your maximum quota and whether this can be altered from their end.
