I use a the WPsitesync plug-in which will sync post and page content between sites. When the Wordfence WAF is in “Enabled and Protecting” mode, sitesync throws an error that Wordfence is blocking the sync and to try turning on “Learning Mode”. Switching the mode to Learning does allow the sync to occur. However, I do not see any indication in the WF Dashboard or modules that shows the action has been allowed and asking for me to enable the connection/action. When I put the WAF back into Enabled and Protecting mode, WF again blocks the sync between sites. Am I missing something in the configuration or settings to enable WF to permanently learn to allow this connection?

    TIA

  • Hello mbdiener,

    Thanks for using WPSiteSync!

This may be an obvious question, but I have to ask: When you put WordFence into Learning Mode, are you doing that on the Target site – the site you are Pushing Content to? This is the site that is blocking the WPSiteSync API call. Then you can check on the Target site to see if there any requests to enable/allow the action. If you’re putting the Source site in Learning Mode, this won’t do anything.

If you are putting the Target site in Learning Mode and it’s still not working, we would like to ask you to submit a support request through our help system at: https://serverpress.com/contact/ – this is very likely not a WordFence issue, but a WPSiteSync issue and this would allow us to work with you better in resolving the problem.

    All the best,

    Hi ServerPress team,

This is very odd. It now seems that WPSiteSync is being allowed through the firewall. My testing was two days ago. Perhaps it takes time for the learning mode to make the changes to the WAF?

Can you tell me what type of URL and param I should see in the WF Whitelisted URLs listing? I want to determine if I can see that it’s been learned. I would hate for this to be an intermittent issue.

    Thanks

    Hi mbdiener,

Glad to hear it’s working better now. I think that once it’s working, it would not suddenly stop working or stop working intermittently. We have not had any customers report that kind of behavior.

The URL we use for API calls is: yourdomain.com?pagename=wpsitesync_api

Please let us know if there’s any more information you need or if we can assist you further.

    All the best,
    The ServerPress Team

    Hey @mbdiener,

@serverpress is correct in thinking that once the actions have been recorded and whitelisted within Learning Mode that it shouldn’t intermittingly fail due to the Firewall.

If this does continue to happen, and there’s anything we can do to help you or the ServerPress Team, please let me know.

    Thanks,

    Gerroald
