    Hi @chelseycontier,

If the rules updates are successfully falling back to the file storage method – and working – rather than MySQLi this isn’t necessarily a big issue as that’s the original way Wordfence works. Usually the MySQLi method is attempted when the filesystem is experiencing problems being written to, such as not having appropriate permissions.

However, if MySQLi is your preferred method or neither method is working, please drop me a diagnostic report to wftest @ wordfence . com so I can see your server settings and what might be happening behind the scenes to cause the failure. You can find the link to do so at the top of the Wordfence Tools > Diagnostics page. Then click on “Send Report by Email”. Please add your forum username where indicated and respond here after you have sent it.

Note: For the fastest response time, please make sure and add any information or questions directly to this topic and not the email address above unless asked.

    Thanks,

    Peter.

Thanks very much Peter. I’ve just sent the diagnostic report as you described.

The file storage fallback isn’t working for us – we need mysql because of our multi-sever configuration.

Let me know if there’s anything else you need from me!

    Cheers,
    Chelsey

    Hi @chelseycontier,

Thanks for providing your site diagnostic. There don’t appear to be any connectivity issues between your site and our servers, and the read/write permissions for the wflogs folder along with your choice of MySQLi as the preferred method seem to be fine too.

My first advice is that there are 75 issues found in your latest scan including many outdated versions (including WordPress itself) and abandoned plugins that may be contributing to issues. This has given the scan a high severity level. We are unable to effectively support outdated versions of Wordfence and WordPress so I recommend these are rectified first and see if the database communication issue persists afterwards.

Let me know how you get on.

    Peter.
