• Resolved f14tomcat

    (@f14tomcat)

I have wordfence installed on my main site and am creating a staging site (using the Duplicator app to clone to an offline XAMPP virtual server) but when I try to login, it keeps blocking me with the following message:

Your access to this site has been temporarily limited by the site owner
Your access to this service has been temporarily limited. Please try again in a few minutes. (HTTP response code 503)

If you think you have been blocked in error, contact the owner of this site for assistance.

I don’t want to delete Wordfence off the live site, but I essentially need to pause it or temporarily turn it off so when I copy it via Duplicator and then install on the staging server, it won’t block me from logging in.

    Any recommendations please?

    Thanks.

Hi @f14tomcat, thanks for reaching out to us.

I believe this problem might be related to the paths to wordfence-waf.php, which is required by the auto_prepend_file value in PHP when the Wordfence firewall is optimized. This will be specific to your live site.

I’m not sure if Duplicator prevents .user.ini and .htaccess being automatically restored, which can prevent wordfence-waf.php from loading and causing issues on the copied site. If you manually put them in, the same problem could occur. If your staging site is offline as you say, problems can also occur when the plugin tries to update its malware signatures or run a scheduled scan.

Often, renaming the /wp-content/plugins/wordfence plugin folder in your duplicated site to wordfence.bak, then attempting to sign in can combat this problem. You could always leave the site like this if Wordfence isn’t required in the local development environment.

Let me know if you have further issues.

    Thanks,

    Peter.
