Hello, I have a wordpress site hosted by dreamhost. Since a few weeks I noticed the appearance of error 500 on my site. So I wrote yesterday and today to dreamhost’s support so that they could consult the error reports to help me identify the source of the problem and help me solve it if it came from their servers. After analysis he sent me back the report and it is clearly written that wordfence is trying to increases the memory value and reaches the limits of the server resources. So he advised me to ask the wordfence support team for help in solving this problem. This is the subject of my message. Can you please help me?

Hello @happyboss and thanks for reaching out to us!

Just to verify, your site is crashing due to resources, and that is what is generating the 500 error? Then your host mentioned that when it failed it was the wordfence scan that caused the crash?

Can you send a diagnostic report to wftest @ wordfence . com? You can find the link to do so at the top of the Wordfence Tools > Diagnostics page. Then click on “Send Report by Email”. Please add your forum username where indicated and respond here after you have sent it.

    Thanks!

    Hello, sorry for the delay.

Yes yes, my site was crashing because of resources, and that’s what generates error 500. I first thought it was a problem with my hosting service, and I wrote to them, and they said the problem was wordfence.

To send the diagnostic report I just did it, there were only two fields, one containing the email [email protected] and in the second one I put my username @happyboss ID, and submitted the report.

Thanks for sending those diagnostics @happyboss

Can you post a screenshot of your Wordfence > All Options > Scan Options > Performance Options for me and post it here?

I did notice that your WP_MEMORY_LIMIT is set to 512M and your WP_MAX_MEMORY_LIMIT is also set to 512M. Usually, you want WP_MEMORY_LIMIT set to about half of the limit. I would recommend having your host adjust that to 256M to start.

Also, can they provide any logs of when the site is peaking and causing it to crash?

    Thanks!

Hi, okay i will see with my host how to update values of these settings.

    Here the link to screenshot

If you could also change those values to this:

    Max Execution time to 0
How much Memory Wordfence requests to 256M

That might even fix your issues immediately.

    Let me know!

    Thanks!
