I keep getting this error message on Wordfence scan and I’m not sure what to do.

    • File Type: Not a core, theme, or plugin file from www.ads-software.com.
    • Details: This file appears to be installed or modified by a hacker to perform malicious activity. If you know about this file you can choose to ignore it to exclude it from future scans. The matched text in this file is: <title>-=Gu3ssWho? Mailer V1.0=-</title>

      The issue type is: Mailer:PHP/generic.7754
      Description: A php mailer

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Hi @jaxsology, thanks for reaching out.

The filename isn’t copied into the message there in case we’ve seen a specific file associated with this in the past. The “Gu3ssWho?” text doesn’t have many search engine hits, but the few that are there do look negative.

If you didn’t place the file there, I would recommend you follow the scan result directions to either clean or remove the file. You could always take a backup first via FTP or your host’s file manager to reinstate the file if anything on your site stops working as a result of its removal.

If you can’t clean/remove the file, you could try sending the copy to samples @ wordfence . com so our team can take a look at it and make suggestions on the next steps to take.

    Thanks,
    Peter.
