    Hi Mods

I appreciate it is possible to block traffic from a country with the paid-for version of Wordfence.

Perhaps you could make an exception to let the free users block traffic from Russia and Belarus? (or any other country that is widely recognised to commit significant human rights breaches)

    thank you

PS I don’t think your standard response of “Country Blocking is a premium feature, and we aren’t allowed to discuss any of the premium features here as per the forum rules.” is appropriate in the current circumstances.

    Thanks for reaching out.

You are correct in that these are certainly difficult and troubling times. Blocking countries certainly seems like a immediate great idea to ‘do your part’ and stay safe. However, even so, the “I can’t discuss premium features on the forum” rule isn’t ours. It is a rule that the www.ads-software.com forum mods have, and we try to be compliant with their rules since they graciously allow us to do some support here and help the Free community.

The reason why I said “Blocking countries certainly seems like a immediate great idea” is because most of the time, any hacking attempts may be based in one country but will be using Tor or a VPN to disguise their location to make it seem like it is coming from another country, in this case most likely a less controversial nation. And when they get blocked enough, they’ll switch IPs or locations.

Wordfence is trying to work with the people hit the hardest, the Ukrainian site owners dealing with the attacks. We took the step of activating our real-time threat intelligence on all sites on the Ukrainian .UA top-level domain (TLD) until further notice. Real time threat intelligence is only available to paid subscribers and we feel this is a huge benefit for them. You can read more about it in the blog post here.

I hope this helps explain what we are doing.

    Stay safe!
    Tim
