  • Hi,

Whenever Wordfence locks a user out it provides a “Reason:” with a reason describing why you’re locked out. This message can help figure out which firewall rule is causing the issue.

I know what the reason is. I’ve set up in Options how many times users input a password where it’s wrong and they get locked out. I was doing this and I forgot my password and it locked me out. How do I set in Wordfence not to lock me out – maybe by letting it know that my IP is OK.

Pretty easy, look in the Wordfence Options page, there is a place you can enter whitelisted IP numbers that bypass all rules “Whitelisted IP addresses that bypass all rules:”

To find your IP just google “what is my public IP?”

In terms of gaining site access if you are locked out, that’s a pretty standard problem/solution you can find plenty of how-to here.

Yes, you are right indeed, BUT once Wordfence locks you out, then when you get back in your wordpress site (via renaming the file in your control panel to deactivate it so you can get back in your WP admin) and try to make a change in Wordfence by inserting your IP address and hit “save changes” – it won’t let you do it!!! It won’t save the new changes, so I am still locked out once I try and get back in the next time. It must be a built in protection device which Wordfence coded in.

Exactly, you need to do some googling. Try googling “locked out of wordfence how to gain site access” the solution I found using that query involves another plugin that allows you to load Wordfence while all settings are disabled. Looked pretty easy, albeit time consuming like all this stuff seems to be. MTN

@miom: The plugin mountainguy2 mentioned is “Wordfence Assistant”, which will let you disable some of the settings while Wordfence itself is disabled. There are more details here: Locked out and can’t get back in

@mountainguy2: Thanks for pitching in with some answers, too!
