Hi, I have an online magazine where I publish articles that I then share on social media. For a few days Wordfence has been blocking Facebook crawlers and I can no longer see link previews on my social page.
I tried to deactivate the plugin and indeed if I deactivate it the previews are displayed again, even from the Facebook debugger.

In Wordfence it doesn’t seem to me that there are any targeted blocks for Facebook. How can I solve this problem of mine?

    Thank you very much

Hi @omarfolghe, thanks for reaching out!

I might expect no preview or an error code to be returned if communication was being blocked, perhaps as a false-positive. Facebook’s bots are usually allowlisted by default using the checkbox in?Wordfence > All Options > Firewall Options > Advanced Firewall Options. I take it that hasn’t been unchecked?

If it’s still checked, perhaps Wordfence is seeing the debugger as a manual action rather than an allowed Facebook service.?Learning Mode?could help here. From the?Wordfence Dashboard?click on?Manage WAF. Then you will see?Basic Firewall Options > Web Application Firewall Status. Change the option to?Learning Mode. This will help Wordfence learn that any actions during this time are normal and it will allow them in the future. Explained via that link, there’s also a way to manually check?Live Traffic?and potentially allowlist any unwanted blocks from there.

Let me know if you continue to have problems after doing this and we’ll look further into it.

    Thanks,
    Peter.

Hi Peter, thank you very much for your reply.

I tried to put the learning mode but neither in Facebook nor in the debugger are the images shared.
In the debugger I have this error: Unable to connect to the server Check that the web server is running and that there are no firewalls blocking Facebook crawlers.
In Wordfence I have no blockages in live traffic.

    What could it depend on?
    thank you very much

Hi @omarfolghe, thanks for trying that.

The strange thing about no blocks in Live Traffic would suggest Wordfence isn’t blocking anything, but of course your tests seem to prove otherwise. Do you have any other firewalls or CDNs like Cloudflare? I wouldn’t necessarily expect those to behave differently when Wordfence was enabled but it might be important to note.

I take it you tried to post another link (with preview) while the site was in Learning Mode?

Are you able to try a test with Wordfence as your only enabled plugin? If the previews show, there could be a conflict of some kind with another plugin that may show itself if you reenable the others one-by-one and test your links in between.

Failing the above, it might help us to see the output from?Wordfence > Tools > Diagnostics?which you can send to us at?wftest @ wordfence . com. Click on?“Send Report by Email”. Please add your forum username where indicated and?respond here after you have sent it.

NOTE: It should look as follows – Screenshot of Tools > Diagnostic > Send by Email

    Many thanks again,
    Peter.
