I have installed Wordfence on this site https://www.burstwickpc.co.uk. I have set up the email I want alerts to go to and when I use the “Send Test Email ” feature in Wordfence the message is sent and received OK. However:

    1. I do not get any notifications from Wordfence when (for example) I log as Admin
    2. The email created with the test goes to an account which should autoforward all messages. The autoforward works but it does not autoforward the Wordfence test message!

Any clues how to fix would be appreciated.

Hi @jupiter1955, thanks for reaching out to us on this.

I’ll try to cover all bases on email troubleshooting, so apologies if you’ve already tried some of the steps. Ultimately Wordfence uses WordPress’ mail send capabilities, so there should be no difference between our alerts and any other WordPress emails you may be sending out.

You can firstly check if cron jobs are running on your site by checking Wordfence > Tools > Diagnostics > Cron Jobs, you will want to find wordfence_email_activity_report and wordfence_daily_cron to make sure they exist.

If you are not receiving emails, the unlock emails actually come from your website and not our servers. If you aren’t getting emails then you might want to check:

    • The emails (they come from [email protected]) are getting sent to your junk mail folder by your email client or provider. Make sure and whitelist or add your website to the list of safe domains so you get emails consistently.
    • Your web server is having a problem with the email software on it. This isn’t like regular emails you send and receive, but rather server alert messages. Usually, a restart of postfix or sendmail (whichever is installed) can fix it. Your hosting provider may need to help with this.
    • Your hosting provider has disabled SMTP from the server for some reason like preventing the server from being used to spam people.
    • You have a third party plugin for sending emails with another service, like Gmail, which isn’t working. Reaching out to the plugin author for support can help.

I hope that helps you out.

    Thanks,

    Peter.
