    Hi guys,
Up until now, all of the people that have worked on my website have had admin privileges. I have now added a new team member and given him a “Shop Manager” role – but whenever he tries to save or preview a new product page that he’s created, he gets blocked:

A potentially unsafe operation has been detected in your request to this site
Your access to this service has been limited. (HTTP response code 403)

I looked around the settings pages but could not find anywhere to configure permissions for different roles. Bottom line, I would like shop managers to have the same access as administrators.

    Thanks!
    Tom

Hi @wildguitars, thanks for getting in touch.

Wordfence won’t attempt to control your WordPress users or roles, other than in conjunction with adding 2FA or reCAPTCHA to your login process. However, sometimes lower user roles can either trigger false-positives or be deemed unsafe by default to perform certain actions normally reserved for administrative users. That’s what this situation looks like.

The first thing you should certainly try is enabling Learning Mode on your site for a limited time.

From the Wordfence Dashboard click on Manage WAF. Then you will see Basic Firewall Options > Web Application Firewall Status. Change the option to Learning Mode. Now perform the actions that were causing issues with the “Shop Manager” role logged in. This will help Wordfence learn that these actions are normal and it will allow them in the future. After you have finished performing the actions, switch the WAF from Learning Mode back to Enabled and Protecting. Now test to see if these actions work correctly.

Let me know if that doesn’t work for you and we can try to look a little deeper into what may be happening behind the scenes.

    Thanks,

    Peter.

    Hi Peter,

Thanks so much for the prompt reply. I read about the learning mode and figured it might be the right thing to do. I will try it out over the next few days and let you know if I need any further assistance.

    All the best,
    Tom
