I run Wordfence successfully on a number of sites on our reseller account and the scan completes successfully. However on one site which runs Woocommerce and a clutch of WC plugins the scan won’t complete. I got the hosts involved and they got it to complete saying that is was requesting 275mb peak RAM and there hadn’t been enough free. Wordfence found issues that time and in the end I reinstalled WordPress to be sure I’d sorted it out. Now I can’t get Wordfence to complete a scan. In fact scanning the sites make our *whole* reseller account run out of resources (server errors) and the sites become inaccessible and ‘kill process’ does nothing. I’ve tried disabling all the plugins to increase available resources, but no joy. I can’t even get access to our reseller WHM to reboot our server now (the hosts will have to do it).

How can I get Wordfence to run in a respectful manner?

    Site page currently shows:

Fatal error: Out of memory (allocated 2359296) (tried to allocate 30720 bytes) in /home/astrosyn/public_html/wp-content/plugins/wordfence/vendor/wordfence/wf-waf/src/lib/rules.php on line 134

    and

Fatal error: Out of memory (allocated 10223616) (tried to allocate 122880 bytes) in /home/astrosyn/public_html/wp-includes/formatting.php on line 183

    I have just seen that:
How much memory should Wordfence request when scanning = 512mb
I don’t think that is the default so the host may have changed it to gain the successful scan.

    Hi barcombeboy,
I’m not sure if you still can see these memory related error messages now even after your web host increased the memory limit for you?

Also, please try these suggestions and let me know how it goes.

    Thanks.

Thanks for your reply wfalaa. I think the errors were caused by Wordfence requesting 279mb RAM when the limit was set to 256mb. We have left the limit set to 512mb and now all is OK.

BTW. Your plugin is fantastic. We suffer hugely from hacking and penetration scans causing DOS and Wordfence is the first security plugin we have tried that actually works properly and keeps our sites protected. Thanks very much.
