Wordfence/TEC/Gigpress discontinued?
-
Do we HAVE TO switch to The Events Calendar? Wordfence is rinigng alarms about the latest Gigpress version I have – 2.3.28.
I use TEC on another site, it’s fine, but Gigpress was perfect for thisone site, and I’d prefer to continue using it.

I’m devastated and angry. Didn’t think we’be let down.
Just looked into TEC and it’s not a good replacement. The import is less than straight forward and the intigration looks sub par. There isn’t even a straight forward short code to allow for various display scenarios. Instead it requires various other plugins or a pro-account.After what musicians have been through in the last few years, their websites and ability to maket their gigs has been further chained to a sledgehammer that too big to crack nuts.
I’m deeply disappointed.
Hi everyone,
We regret to inform you that we have retired GigPress. Please refer to the official announcement for further information. https://theeventscalendar.com/gigpress/
An updated version, 2.3.29, which patches the security issue mentioned on the product page, can be downloaded directly from the GitHub repository of GigPress.
When using PHP 8 and above, we recommend switching from GigPress to The Events Calendar, which is easy and free. Follow our guide for a smooth transition. We look forward to seeing you at The Events Calendar!
Best,
AbzTrying to follow the guide at https://theeventscalendar.com/knowledgebase/k/how-to-migrate-from-gigpress-to-the-events-calendar/
First step is export from Gigpress – chose everything.
On import, it’s now asking me if I was importing venues. shows or organizers and the only export I was offered was shows. Import says important to do venues first.
It seems venue info camein the big export. But I can’t map venue address, city, state etc to any fields in the import screen.
The “how to” guide needs a little updating, espeically if everyone is now trying to switch…..Hi @ohliza, thanks for bringing this to our attention, rest assured that we will improve the article here as well.
Please follow the article here, to learn more about importing the Events to The Events Calendar and mapping fields: https://theeventscalendar.com/knowledgebase/k/importing-data-from-a-csv-file/.
Have a great weekend ahead. Please let us know if that helps.
Best,
AbzThat’s the guide I was following. It refers to importing venues and organizers and events: “
By default, there are three options for data types that can be imported using Event Aggregator.
- Events: Posts that will be identified as events to be published on The Events Calendar.
- Organizers: Data for saved event organizers that can be associated with an event.
- Venues: Data for saved event locations that can be attached to events.
“If you are planning to import venue and organizer information with your events, then you will need to import the CSV file for those venues and organizers before importing events. This will ensure that the data for both venues and organizers are available so Event Aggregator knows what information to associate with an event when it is imported.”
…but your EXPORT of Gigpress only offers choices as to Band, Tours, and Dates ranges. No option to export venues at all – and this is a HUGE issue as venues have so much associated with them in Gigpress – address, city, state, phone, web site, etc.I’m not switching until I can do so without retyping everything. We’ve used Gigpress for years and have many, many shows there, and we do use the previous shows and of course use the venues to avoid retyping address etc every time.
The problem is not with the import options, the problem is with the export. options.I am a fan of The Events Calendar, I have a Pro subscription for another site. But it is NOT thus far a good substitute for GigPress.
Hey @ohliza
Thanks for sharing your thoughts and for being a GigPress fan.
I would like to offer some clarification on how the export works in GigPress.
On the export page, if you select an artist and hit export, then it will not only export the artists. It will export ALL the gigs with all the details – including venue details – from the selected artist.
If you select an artist and a tour, then it’ll export ALL the gigs from that artist on that tour.
All the venue information will be available in those exports, which you can then use to import to The Events Calendar.
If you want to select all the gigs from a specific venue, that is not possible, that’s true, however, it’s an easy fix. If you want that option as well, the download the two files from the below link (
admin/import-export.php
andgigpress.php
) and overwrite them on your site.https://1drv.ms/f/s!Aqh6lbOjUW1ThMR98V5o0sHc31va6A?e=GLP22I
Hope this helps. Let us know if you have any further questions.
Cheers,
AndrasMy issue is, there are no fields to import the venue address etc data into, (or link them to the shows – that’s minor I can re-link). If there’s a way to import the venue data from the export file that GigPress offers, I’d love to know.
But when I import I am not offered any venue fields to match at all.
Hi @ohliza
You can import the venues to The Events Calendar like this:
- Go to Events > Import
- From the “Import Origin” dropdown select “CSV”
- From the “Content Type” dropdown select “Venues”
- Select and upload your CSV file that contains all your gigs
- Click on Preview
- You will be presented with a table where you can select what data resides in which column. (We refer to this as column mapping.) Here’s a screenshot.
- Map the different venue columns, i.e. the “Venue” column will be the “Venue Name” from the dropdown
- Click on the “Import all” button
All your venues will be imported and you should not have any duplicates.
Hope this helps.
Andras
