Wordfence won’t activate

    I’m trying to activate wordfence to get rid of a hack on my site, but I keep getting this message:

    “FTP credentials don’t allow to write to file /data/1/5/10/161/5173813/user/6213729/htdocs/.htaccess”

    What does this mean? And how do I get rid of it to activate the plugin?

  • Hi @justicebennett1!

    Wordfence does not write to .htaccess on activation so I’m not sure why you are getting this when attempting to activate Wordfence. When doing a search on this error message I’m getting a lot of posts about “W3 Total Cache”. Do you have that plugin? If so, can you try deactivating it to see if that helps?
